Lincoln Suddenly Stands With Obama

Lincoln's obstructionism on healthcare and a host of other fronts persuaded Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter--a rising star in the state--to challenge her in the Democratic primary on May 18. Halter helped organize a free healthcare clinic for a thousand Arkansans in November 2009 and supported a public insurance option, along with passage of a final bill through reconciliation. He's been endorsed by the AFL-CIO, SEIU and MoveOn, and recent polls show him gaining on Lincoln.

Now, in an attempt to court the Obama voters she's repelled throughout the past year, Lincoln is running ads on African-American radio in Arkansas claiming she "stood with our president to pass healthcare reform." The ad continues: "Even though the Tea Party and insurance companies attacked Blanche Lincoln, she never abandoned our president, nor you." Listen to the ads below {at link).

The ads also take a shot at Halter's main accomplishment as lieutenant governor--creating a state lottery to pay for scholarships for college, a popular program in the low-income state. "Bill Halter keeps talking about lottery this, lottery that," says one man in the ads. "The lottery doesn't give me access to healthcare."

In response, the Halter campaign began running this ad:

"Who is Blanche Lincoln trying to fool on healthcare?" says the narrator. "Here's the deal: she didn't stand up to the special interests, she worked for them. She sided with those Republicans who tried to kill President Obama's reforms unless insurance company profits were protected. Insurance companies and HMOs rewarded Lincoln with more the $800,000 in campaign cash...Senator Lincoln, my people aren't fooled. Bill Halter is the one who'll stand up for us."

In addition to the healthcare ads, Lincoln has been touting her "A" rating from the NAACP, which the organization's Arkansas chapter takes issue with. "If I had to grade her even on health care reform she definitely wouldn't get an A," said Dale Charles, president of the Arkansas NAACP. "She'd maybe get a C minus."

I'll have much more on this hotly contested race as we get closer to the primary.

1. I just got an email that says..
"In her first TV ad this year, Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln brags that she voted "against the public option health care plan" and says, "I don't answer to my party."

If this is what she's saying in a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY, imagine how she'll vote the next 6 years! (At least Joe Lieberman pretended during his primary.)

It is absolutely critical that populist Lt. Governor Bill Halter win the May 18 primary. And he needs all of our help to do it."

Is she a split personality type person?

4. Both Obama and Bill Clinton have coddled and protected her.
Bill Clinton accused Keith Olbermann of politicizing health care and refused to appear at the Free Clinic Keith sponsored in Arkansas. He said it was just the progressives trying to unseat Lincoln.

No shit, Sherlock.

7. Kos and Research 2000 show Halter within striking distance (13 pts)
but Nate Silver estimates a 90% chance her seat will go to the republics.

Can't even believe she's bragging on bringing down the public option ...

8. She's playing to the teabaggers in Arkansas..and
as we see in the OP..she's bragging to African Americans that she supported this President.

What has she done to help Democratic Progress?

I think she's useless and I hope Bill Halter beats her in the primary..it's no small feat that anyone is even running against her who's as viable as he is.

13. Another reason not to vote for Blanche--her bill with Kyl to slash estate tax for multimillionaires
Ten Democrats vote for Sens. Kyl and Lincoln’s bill protecting the children of multimillionaires.

Sens. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) recently introduced a $250 billion amendment to slash estate taxes for the heirs of multimillion-dollar estates. Yesterday, the Senate narrowly passed the bill by a 51-48 vote. Joining Republicans in approving the bill were ten Senate Democrats:

Baucus (D-MT), Bayh (D-IN), Cantwell (D-WA), Landrieu (D-LA), Lincoln (D-AR), Murray (D-WA), Nelson (D-FL), Nelson (D-NE), Pryor (D-AR), Tester (D-MT)

As the New York Times explained, under Obama’s budget, “99.8 percent of estates will never — ever — pay a penny of estate tax. The heirs of the remaining 0.2 percent of estates are who Ms. Lincoln and Mr. Kyl are so worried about.”

14. Is There a Different Definition to the Phrase "Stands With Obama" That I'm Not Aware Of?
Blanche, I do not think it means what you think it means...

We all know she's the a$$ of the Democratic Party.

The more stuff I hear about what Bill Clinton does/did, the more I dis-like him.
