I don't get this state. Arnold was enough. It's also sad that Jerry Brown is the best the Dems could do.

20. He doesn't have to until the primaries are over.
Let Whitman and Poizner deplete their campaign coffers fighting each other and when the winner emerges you will see Brown come out swinging.

Depends on which ones your aiming for.
Majority of the ones that can vote...normally vote Republican. It's a well known fact that most Mexican-Americans with money in California normally vote Republican. The illegal ones, who unfortunately can't vote, would probably vote in large numbers for Dems.

Similar make-up in voting style once they have money. I think out of everyone, Boricuans are the mostly vote Dem.

26. Gus Newsom?
The one who had an affair with his good friend and aide's wife (a la the notorious Senator Ensign)? The one who continues to punish the homeless rather than deal with them in a more just manner? That guy? Now he *would* be a sad candidate...

I heard he'll run for lieutenant governor anyway.

15. Right now it's just Meg Whitman versus Steve Poizner.
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 04:17 PM by 4lbs
They are beating the crap out of each other for the GOP nod in the primary.

You know what their ads pretty much boil down to? Calling each other 'liberals' (OMG!!111!!! Not that!!!11!!!) and being in lockstep with Obama. That's it.

Jerry Brown is running pretty much uncontested for the Democratic party, so he hasn't had to make any ads and is saving his money for this summer and fall.

All the polling numbers you see are because of Whitman's and Poizner's back-and-forth with each other.

Since CA voters are little different than national voters, in that they only really remember stuff told to them in the last 90 days, Jerry Brown doesn't need to do anything but sit back and wait.

Going 'chicken-little' 7 months before the election is stupid. Wait until the October 2010 polling numbers for a better read on how things will go.

22. Yep!
Then Brown will save tons of money fighting against whomever... and if he sticks to telling us what he plans to do (which the R candidates have yet to do) he will be just that much more ahead.

These two Pubbies are slinging a lot of mud... and none of it is hitting Brown... so far.

Let 'em hurl at each other... doesn't worry me one little bit! Makes me quite happy, actually.

Moonbeam WILL win. Whitman is going DOWN. It must be. It must, I tell you. I can't take this shit anymore.

If I could I'd redraw the border just above Santa Barbara and let them wallow in their own mess, cause it ain't Northern California's fault. We'd never have Repuke governors if it weren't for the ass-end of the state dragging us down (with apologies to all left-leaning SoCal folks).

19. You'd be cutting off millions of liberals in the Los Angeles area and
apparently you've never been in Northern California above Marin County, which is very red as are the Central Valley and the Sierras. Unfortunately, you need those lib votes from the south.

33. I am taking that into account
And yes I have been above Marin County, actually. Humboldt, Sacramento, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake Counties - all blue. The red boondocks you refer to are not population centers. Even the Central Valley is not overwhelmingly red - many areas have just a slim majority and that may be changing for the better. Add that to Santa Cruz, Monterey County and the super-densely populated Bay Area and you have a strongly blue Northern Half.

I would never want to cut off any like-mined liberals, but strictly in terms of numbers, if you split the state into North and South, don't you think the South would turn red?

...and California will be very lucky to get him, if they manage to get past the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ spent by the Megster and succeed in electing him.

He is both experienced and visionary. Not to mention, the last time he was governor, he left the state with a surplus.

Go, Jerry! Here's hoping! (yes I will be contributing to his campaign)

All that energy needs to get behind defeating which ever Republican wins the current slime fest, probably the revolting Mega Bucks Meg.
And Jerry Brown is one of the best governors California has ever had, his father was another. I've met Jerry Brown once or twice, and he is without a doubt the most grounded and informed politician I have ever met. I've met a lot of them.

I know a lot of dems that are anxious for the summer campaign to begin. California can definitely elect him again! Our local Democratic HQ is going to be a busy place with the Boxer and Pelosi campaign s too. I'd also love to see our current congresswoman Bono-Mack finally get the boot.

45. Jerry's letting BIG spender Meg enrich the California economy.
Jerry Brown is known for being very frugal. The contrast between Jerry and Meg should be interesting. Meg looks like the political equivalent of a "shop-a-holic" - a real gift to the advertising agencies and TV/radio media who need the money. It will backfire on her campaign when the citizens are looking for someone who is frugal.

46. Many key voters are too young to remember Brown
It concerns me that he is waiting until June. He need to do something low budget but efficacious until then such as ads in the subways etc, planting the seed:

e.g. Meg Whitman-- a Republican: wants to kill the educational system and essential services; enemy government and working Californians.

48. What's worrying about this is that people were stupid enough to keep Arnold in office.
After California went downhill during the gubengrabber's reign, Meg is banking on Californians having a short attention span. I hope that isn't true. I hope some folks have a long memory that extends back to that horrible recall drive to get Gray Davis out of office. :(
