Beck admits he doesn’t give ‘a flying crap about political process … We’re an entertainment company"
Beck admits he doesn’t give ‘a flying crap about the political process. … We’re an entertainment company.’

Fox News host Glenn Beck’s media “empire” is the cover story of the newest issue of Forbes Magazine. In the story, Beck reveals that his media company Glenn Beck Inc. made $32 million in revenue in the period between March 2009 and March 2010. The host also explains that he sees himself much more as an entertainer than a political activist, saying that he doesn’t “give a flying crap about the political process”:

With a deadpan, Beck insists that he is not political: “I could give a flying crap about the political process.” Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage. “We’re an entertainment company,” Beck says.

“I don’t necessarily believe that is reflective of his own personal politics — I don’t even know if he has personal politics,” Michael Harrison, the publisher of Talkers magazine tells Forbes. “I see him as a performer.” This isn’t the first time Beck has suggested he isn’t as radically conservative as he seems. In February he told USA Weekend that “you’d have to be an idiot” to “not notice the temperature change” caused by global warming, and that he thinks mankind may play a signficant role in the phenomenon. Beck has previously described himself as “a rodeo clown” and conceded, “If you take what I say as gospel, you’re an idiot.”

13. He just admits as to what he is.
There are lots of people that sell themselves for money. The Teabaggers prostitute themsleves for free.

Beck is just better at price negotiation.

2. Newsflash, Mr. Beck:
Some of your viewers are idiots.

Idiots with guns, Mr. Beck. That you've stirred up, so you can make money.

5. Here's a thought...
Now that they are all stirred up and armed, Beck confeses it's all about the money... wouldn't that piss off his armed audience? Or are they just too stupid to get it?

They've been used... they've been had.

that much. His histrionics simply lend "legitimacy" to already-inculcated tendencies in these folks. And besides, when one's made a fool of, one tries not to publicize the fact.

4. Interesting... in movie theaters here in San Francisco...
They used to air a commercial promoting a Beck appearance, with his giant zoomed-in crying face, and the voice-over referred to it as a "comedy show"

I wondered at the time if it was a lure to get SFers to show up.

8. I think of it as a disclaimer
If it was about serious matters, they could be held responsible for the outcome. If it's just entertainment, who believe the movies?

11. Well, that was always obvious. You don't get up and spout off nutso statements every night
if you actually take the political process seriously.
Jon Stewart nailed his over-theatrics. Either he was unhinged or he was simply playing a character this whole time. I think he was playing a character.
You know, he was once a DJ for a morning radio show here in CT. He was not like he is today. He developed a character to make money off of.

12. Beck is simply loathsome and repugnant.
Edited on Thu Apr-08-10 04:04 PM by political_Dem
Not only that, he's a damned coward. He dished it out and incited hatred with his words. Heck, he even took a page from the Palin handbook (OMG, did I say that?) and whipped up these bigots into a violent frenzy with his biased and ignorant opinions. And now he claims that this is "simply entertainment"?

His filthy and horrible behavior on air goes beyond entertainment. Beck knows he's wrong and can't admit to the fruits of his labor. His amorality and lack of conscience shines through with every act he has done the length of his career.

14. He reminds me of the the right-wing version of Peter Finch's character in the movie "Network"
Edited on Thu Apr-08-10 04:39 PM by 4lbs
that came out in 1976. Back then the country was in a recession, the price of gas was high, the banks and corporations (namely Wall Street) were controlling things...

You know, the Howard Beale character that went on the airwaves ranting and then finally telling the people to scream out their windows "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore". Beale then aligned himself with a militant group.

Glenn Beck is doing the same thing, but ranting crazily against Obama and anything liberal.

By the way, remember what eventually happened to Howard Beale in the movie?

Mmmm... Hmmm....

15. And you know what? People keep buying into him.
People like Olbermann and John Stewart are making Beck valid and rich, just like they're doing for Palin. It's really starting to piss me off that they spend so much god damn time talking about either one of them, promoting their causes, giving them and the Teafuckers free air time.

That is why I do not watch Olbermann anymore. If I want to hear about O'Reilly or Beck, I'll tune in to their shows myself. It's all about ratings and sales for these people, and frankly, I don't want to hear it any longer. I blame them as much as I blame the media for destroying this country.

17. A Face In the Crowd
Old Lonesome Rhodes is just doing it for fun and money. LOL! You know he's an Independant like O'lielly and Mush. My brother now calls himself that too. Just change the name, and it's no longer my fault. But I asked my brother. Would you have voted for Bush again had he run? And of course the answer was yes. Even though now he "says" he doesn't like Bush. But it's ANYONE else but Obama. My brothers one of Beck Bots.

BTW, whatever happened to the advertisers boycott? It sure doesn't seem to have had any influence on Beck's pocketbook.

Beck is a bludgeon wielded to further corporate political goals.

He's not naive enough to believe otherwise, but he is that dishonest.
