Barney Frank: Gingrich, media to blame for angrier politics
Barney Frank: Gingrich, media to blame for angrier politics
By Michael O'Brien - 04/09/10 07:46 AM ET

Blame Newt Gingrich and the media for the angrier tenor of American politics, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said Thursday night.

Frank, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said the former Republican speaker, along with shifts in the media, were to blame for a more tense tenor in contemporary U.S. politics.

The Massachusetts Democrat said that things were "easier" when he first gore to Congress in the early 1980s, but acknowledged that things had only become angrier over time.

But Frank pinpointed Newt Gingrich's ascension to head the Republican Party in the House as the breaking point.

"A very self-described partisan came to office. Newt Gingrich became the speaker, and he said this was a mistake, that politics get muffled if you act like as if it's all people of goodwill disagreeing," Frank said during an appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.

"So they got angrier, we responded," Frank added.

1. Yes, angry ol greedy ignorant
liars like gingrich and the corporatemediawhores are to blame for the tenor of American politics. I'm sure they're quite proud of bringing so many down to their level.

2. The worst of it is that the media sponsored this type of politics since the eighties.

And they saw nothing wrong with it. Instead, they egged it on. And now, spawning from "shock jock radio" and "conservative talk show hosts", America has fostered the rise of extremist behavior which has hit the iceberg by the formation of the Teabaggers.

Whenever people tried to stop this type of crap, they were attacked with anti-political correctness rants and "First Amendment Rights". And then, they rolled over and played dead in light of it.

Is it any surprise that we have to deal with groups of seditionists like Teabaggers and their handlers trying to undermine the POTUS?

3. Liberals always told me "Limbaugh is harmless" back in 1989.
Joke's on Doormat-o-crats. Rape-publicans have lived up to their name. And today's Glenn Beck will be tomorrow's thousand-times-more-insane-next-hatemonger.

4. Thank You Barney Frank for Calling It!
Sadly, even many liberals end up buying into these talking points and the anger.
