Understanding the surge of the Right...
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 03:40 PM by greencharlie
We have 33% of the nation who pretty much likes the Democratic Party, 33% who like the Republicans and 33% who are true independents.

It was easy to see the Independents swing to the Democratic side of things as the Republicans became known as the party of Bible thumpers, gun nuts (no offense, I'm a gun owner and advocate) and homophobic puritans.

As long as the Republican party is the party of ^^that^^ they will lose the majority of independents and elections.

So what has happened in the last year? Well, the economy has made many independents anti-incumbent. The shrill cries of "Socialist, Liberty and Marxist" have succeeded in pushing some indies right.

The fundies have lost control of the Republican party... and that's good. Well, maybe not. The Republican party TODAY is the amalgamation of the Fundies, Libertarians, Fiscal Cons and the Independents. They've never cobbled together these groups all at the same time before. That's why they're favored to strike big in November.

Solution? Stop hammering on the Repubs as "teabaggers"... and "klansmen", hell polling shows that more American identify with THEM! Bring back the criticisms that WORK. Force legislation on items like DADT, GLBT equality, Abortion and maybe even a "trap bill" for something like banning "cop killer" bullets or some meaningless red herring just to bring out the wing-nuts.

Re-introduce the public to the REPUBLICAN party of the 90's... intolerant, bigoted and "crude". The Clinton administration did a GREAT job of this exact thing from 1996-1998.

1. Please, no more Clintonian tactics
Thats just a recipe for a continued move towards the right via the DLC triangulation tactic, and it has destroyed our country over the last 20 years.

2. Well first, the Fundies never had control of the Republican party,
they just were used like tools...which is why there have had little to show in reference to abortion regulation changes on the national front.

2nd, polling does not show that more Americans "identify" with Teabaggers and Klansmen, unless you buy what Fox News is selling....and anyways, when did fucked up rigged ass polling become the standard? Last I checked, we had national elections every two years for that. Soooo, I'll still call them what they are, Republicans and right leaning Indies (which are people too ashamed to call themselves Republicans but vote Republicans) are Teabaggers, and with that comes what they are advertised to be....uninformed and intolerant crude bigots. You see, the Republicans of the 90s are exactly the Teabaggers of the 21st century. The fact that they hide who they are doesn't change a thing.

don't let them hide who they are... right now they are putting on a different face. Like I posted... show who they REALLY are.

And I'll disagree with you about the Fundies not controlling the party... remember the "Christian Coalition" and such from the 80's and 90's? Pat Robertson's failed POTUS bid? Ralph Reid, Remember? Here's the deal... the Fiscal Cons (Wall St. Bankers, misc rich bastards and trust funders) were EMBARASSED by the fundies, as were the Libertarians and Indies... driving MANY to Clinton and again to Obama.

This is why this cycle is more dangerous... it's all about the Repub coalition that now exists. A vote on the R box on the Ballot will become the resting place for anti-incumbent, anti-Dem, anti-Obama, anti-economy, anti-tax and anti-tolerance.
