Believe it or not, I actually DON'T think the GOP will filibuster Obama's nominee. |
|
A couple of reasons:
a) One of the Maine Senators will probably break from the pack
b) Scott Brown actually seems to want to be re-elected come 2012.

3. The republicans will not allow a vote on any nominee. Their base wants them to say NO to everything; |
|
Palin, in a speech yesterday (saw a clip on TV) said the republicans were the party of NO and the crowd went nuts cheering her. No way those senators are going to go along with any supreme court nominee with her leading the way.

They won't filibuster a qualified nominee who is not overtly liberal - they are just posturing - again.

10. The Pukes' leadership will have a little powwow and decide what if |
|
anything to do about President Obama's nominee, once that person is known.
Even if they decide to try a smear-and-block, they still don't have the votes.
This one looks well in hand for the president, IMO.

12. I think we could expect Maine's two Senators to be inclined toward |
|
female nominees to the high court. Their constituents like strong women enough to send two to Washington in the upper chamber and I would expect they would be under some public pressure to vote to confirm. Maybe not, but they would have to answer to their constituents' wishes that a female nominee be confirmed.
Voinovich of Ohio is a possibility as well.
A Kagan nomination might be more politically inviting to a handful of Republican Senators than a Wood nomination, for example.

|
He check mated the Rs with Soto being a hispanic woman ...
Regardless of who it is, the right and MSM are going to make him/her into the most extreme, left wing, america hating scumbag ever nominated ...
But, yes, if she is property qualified and is as squeeky clean as possible, a woman will go through ...
A white man will be a TOUGH battle ...

19. Hi, Cosmocat. Agree. Plus, why not begin to address the imbalance on |
|
the court right now -- it's such a boys club. Agree also that the president did a lot of good with Sotomayor. I liked her anyway and even politically, she just seems close to a perfect pick.
I'd love to have transcripts from the White House of the meetings held on the next nominee. I bet they'd be lively.

The republicans have gone completely crazy with their NO to everything the President proposes.

22. It is a problem. I'd certainly like to see Olympia Snowe in particular |
|
stand up to her party and tell them they need to grow up.
I hoped for much more for her in key issues this past couple of years and it just never was there.
Color me disappointed. I thought she was a better person than to align with the folks she's aligning with.

15. I think they will, for two reasons.... |
|
... he made a point (when I say "he" I mean the person who writes his Tweets) of saying "I will move quickly to name a replacement..." as if to say, "if this thing gets bogged down, it WONT be my fault."
And I think the withdrawl of Dawn Johnson was a factor. The WH sees a fight ahead and something had to give.

21. The Repukes Would Filibuster The Shoes Obama Wears, If They Could. |
|
They sure as hell won't miss the chance to fight his Supreme Court nominee, no matter who it is. Consequently, Obama might as well nominate a genuine liberal jurist to the Court. But he won't.....
