I have no clue where we will end up. I do know where I hope we end up.

2. I think it'll stay pretty much where it is. Today he kept saying, "Like Stevens,..."
He seemed to signal that he wanted someone with the same outlook/philosophy as Stevens. And it would be tough to get a more liberal justice than him...especially in this atmosphere.

4. Even if Noam Chomsky were nominated and confirmed...
the left right divide won't change. We need to get one of the five sphincters in order to change the tilt of the court.

6. Progressives/liberals will continue to be marginalized and we will like it & take one for the team -

again...

We will creep further right - and I will rant and rave - and then Obama will do something at the last minute that will make is seem OK by comparison to the last few months that I will be OK with it - again.

Just like an abused spouse.

I do not feel good about this at all, but at least it's not a repuke.

The only question will be how pathetic will the dems be in their failure to fight for US for a change.

The repukes will "win" another one - a death by a thousand cuts...

7. I don't see how we get a justice any more liberal than Stevens so our best bet
is to remain the same.

8. I'm all Hopey-Changey.
Stevens was no liberal, he was a swing voter. It can still be moved left.

10. The Supreme court has expressed its wish to move farther to the right...
...and a certain recent decision guarantees that it will.

11. Stevens' replacement, no matter how liberal, will not tip the balance of the court.
One of the scumpiles on the other side would need to die for it to happen.

14. The replacement won't matter until 10 to 15 years from now when one of the fearsome 4 retire.

So, it will stay the same right now no matter what Obama does. The most important person on that court is Kennedy, the so called swing vote. And he will continue to be.

15. Obama delivered a half-baked health insurance reform bill, has done little
on energy, danced with Republicans for the first 12 months of his administration, and gave us less jobs than he could have.

He can do a lot for history and his legacy by nominating an outstanding progressive to serve on the court.

I predict that he's getting the message and he can deliver all on his own, without worrying about Republicans.

Screw Republicans, screw the Chief Justice, get someone with the guts of Grayson or Franken on the court.
