Obama: Death of Polish president 'devastating' to U.S. and the world
By Eric Zimmermann - 04/10/10 09:43 AM ET

President Barack Obama offered his condolences this morning on the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife, and a number of Polish leaders.

snip//

Today, I called Polish Prime Minister Tusk to express Michelle's and my deepest condolences to the people of Poland on the tragic deaths this morning of President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynski, and all who were traveling with them to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kaczynski family, the loved ones of those killed in this tragic plane crash, and the Polish nation.

Today’s loss is devastating to Poland, to the United States, and to the world. President Kaczynski was a distinguished statesman who played a key role in the Solidarity movement, and he was widely admired in the United States as a leader dedicated to advancing freedom and human dignity. With him were many of Poland’s most distinguished civilian and military leaders who have helped to shape Poland’s inspiring democratic transformation. We join all the people of Poland in mourning their passing.

Today, there are heavy hearts across America. The United States cherishes its deep and abiding bonds with the people of Poland. Those bonds are represented in the strength of our alliance, the friendships among our people, and the extraordinary contributions of Polish-Americans who have helped to shape our nation.

It is a testament to the strength of the Polish people that those who were lost were travelling to commemorate a devastating massacre of World War II as the leaders of a strong, vibrant, and free Poland. That strength will ensure that Poland emerges from the depths of this unthinkable tragedy, and that the legacy of the leaders who died today will be a light that continues to guide Poland – and the world – in the direction of human progress.

1. Devastating death to homophobes and anti-choice peoples of the world!
Edited on Sat Apr-10-10 11:12 AM by IndianaGreen
This POS and his brother Jaroslaw, instituted and promoted the persecution and oppression of LGBTs in Poland. Lech and Jaroslaw Kaczynski also took away all abortion rights that Polish women used to enjoy under the previous communist governments.

I won't join President Obama in mourning another vicious homophobe and anti-choice politician!

Polish President who said homosexuality will destroy human race dies in plane crash

By Staff Writer, PinkNews.co.uk • April 10, 2010 - 9:55

Lech Kaczynski and his twin brother Jarosław Kaczyński are major figures in right wing, homophobic Polish politics. Jaroslaw was until recently the prime minister of Poland. Lech had previously been the Mayor of Warsaw and reached international notoriety because of repeatedly banning gay pride marches from taking place in the city.

Kaczynski was accused of homophobia when in 2007 as President he was challenged over this decision, and said: " "If that kind of approach to sexual life were to be promoted on a grand scale, the human race would disappear.

"Imagine what grand changes would occur in mores if the traditional links between men and women were set aside."

Following the 2009 European Parliament elections, David Cameron's Conservative party joined Kaczynski's Law and Justice Party in a new right wing alliance within the Parliament.

9. How humane of you.
Kaczynski may not have been terribly humane either, but you've just lowered yourself to his level.

10. I am merely saying that I won't mourn his passing
There is a big difference between not mourning and dancing in someone's grave.

2. What's Pat Robertson's take?
I also won't mourn the passing of an ultra-conservative homophobic so-called leader.
It will be interesting to see how the insane right spins this.

3. Perhaps GAWD has returned from vacation and decided to get rid of some of those...
that called his name while doing horrible things to GAWD's children.

5. This reminded me of a Tom Waits tune
God's away on Business
Tom Waits

I'd sell your heart to the junkman baby
For a buck, for a buck
If you're looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch
You're out of luck, you're out of luck

Ship is sinking
The ship is sinking
The ship is sinking

There's a leak, there's a leak in the boiler room
The poor, the lame, the blind
Who are the ones that we kept in charge?
Killers, thieves and lawyers

God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business
God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business

Digging up the dead with a shovel and a pick
It's a job, it's a job
Bloody moon rising with a plague and a flood
Join the mob, join the mob
It's all over, it's all over
It's all over

There's a leak, there's a leak in the boiler room
The poor, the lame, the blind
Who are the ones that we kept in charge?
Killers, thieves and lawyers

God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business
God's away, God's away on business, business

Godddamn there's always such a big temptation
To be good, to be good
There's always free cheddar in a mousetrap, baby
It's a deal, it's a deal

God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business
God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business

I narrow my eyes like a coin slot baby
Let her ring, let her ring

God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business
God's away, God's away
God's away on business, business

14. God's wrath came down upon this homophobe. God was trying to teach others a lesson.
Let this be a warning if homophobes don't repent of their ways..... God will not sit by silently!

4. Not to me.
Of course he must say that, as would I in his case. And he probably believes it. The Polish president has been a destabilizing presence in Europe.

11. He was upset that Obama decided to not deploy the missiles that Bush wanted in Poland
The underlying reason was the millions of dollars that Lech was expecting from the US for being a good lapdog, money which would find its way into the pockets of the new Polish ruling class.

13. ha yes, thats what I thought
I remember him throwing temper tantrums, what a shame to loose his entire family though.

Well the President sent his condolences on behalf of the United States that should be
good enough for me.
