It's time for the Democratic Party to show what they are made of - re: Supreme Court Battle |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-10-10 11:20 AM by jillan
And I'm not talking about the actual pick here....there are enough threads about that.
What I am talking about is controlling the message - for once!
Point #1 -The Rpigs should not be allowed to get away with the talking point NO ACTIVIST JUDGES...they have already started. How dare them after the Citizens United Case?? I want to see every Dem, every day, on every media outlet fighting back on this. All they have to say is 'An Activist Judge? You mean like Roberts and Alito?'. I want to see the Democrats that we elected to office fighting back hard on this.
Point #2 - No matter what you thought about Bill Frist, you have to give him credit for one thing. How did we get Roberts and Alito? "Up or Down Vote". He hammered that home, didn't he? The President won the election and his nominees deserve an "Up or Down Vote". My niece was 5 years old at the time & would walk around saying "Up or Down Vote", it was funny, but at the same time it pissed me off because it reminded me every time at just how effective Frist was at controlling the message. It's time for our elected Democratic Senators to do the same thing.
It doesn't matter who Obama picks, they will be labelled "A Radical Socialist that hates American ideals, and they will change the rule of law once they are on the bench". What does matter is how well the Democrats CONTROL the message.
Hopefully they are using this break to polish up their balls, to have some steel inserted into their spines and to put on their stomping boots. It's make or break time.
I really believe if Obama knew the Dems would put up a strong fight, would have his back, he would be more willing to nominate someone more liberal. But if he has to worry that his nominee is going to be allowed to be trashed and torn apart, he is going to back down and nominate someone in the middle because that's the only way they will get sworn in.
You have to fight for what you want or settle for the consequences...Let's see who's going to fight, and who's going to settle.

1. Oh, I predict we will see (once again) what they are made of |
|
and that we will get the same megaphones justifying another conservative pick to the Supreme Court.
I'll put my money on Orrin Hatch getting the nod, and the pick being proclaimed as another brilliant 13-dimensional chess move.

2. That's just it, they have to learn to fight or we will get an Orrin Hatch clone. |

3. Why get an Orrin Hatch clone when we can get the real McCoy |
|
It is no secret that Orrin Hatch wants to end his public life on the Supreme Court, and he was considered for such a post by Poppy Bush.

Erase that thought from your head, Obama maybe a Centrist, but this would be too extreme.

5. If there were a chance in hell |
|
that Utah would put a Democratic Senator in his place, then perhaps it becomes feasible in some sort of weird alternate universe, but that's not going to happen in this one.
I do not expect that the President wants a bruising nomination fight just before the election, and I predict that he might just find someone to "award" it to as an honor. Either Clinton would jump at the chance.
Hatch really only has one hope of getting on the Court, and that's the long shot that Mittens wins the Rethug nomination, then beats President Obama in 2012. If a progressive were to resign or die (such as Ginsberg), then Willard could fight off pressure to "name a moderate to liberal justice" in the seat by naming Hatch, his fellow Mormon, and someone that few in the Senate would oppose.
But, I speak of another alternate universe here...

7. IMO, this has nothing to do with "learning" but with us progressives/liberals being DUPED. |

Look at the totality of President Obama's and his Executive Branch's ACTIONS over the course of the past year?
Now tell me where is there an inkling of PROGRESSIVE policy (serving PEOPLE before CORPORATIONS) in either domestic issues and/or foreign policy?
It's no mistake: President Obama is a "New Democrat" = right-wing of our party (Center-to- Right on the overall political scale) and corporate support before the interest of the average wage earning American.
If you judge all his decisions through the lens above, you will not be disappointed.

a once-in-a-lifetime chance to enact real health care reform and instead chose to deliver the American people into mandated slavery to insurance cartels.

9. I am afraid we will see plain centerists with maybe a touch of liberalism, denounced |
|
by the idiots as socialists.
I really hope Obama decides to do right here - we NEED a bone thrown to us every so often.
