My husband is relieved that the car broke down. |
|
Let me give you some background:
I went to see George McGovern campaign in Buffalo in 1972. I took nominating petitions door to door and was a poll watcher for the campaign that year.
My husband and I took the kids down to see Jesse Jackson campaign in Syracuse, and I took the kids to see Jerry Brown at Syracuse University.
A couple weeks back. Three of my kids took part in a Take Back the Night demonstration in Buffalo after a girl was attacked for being a lesbian. My daughter has taken part in several gay rights demonstrations.
The kids won't be there to protest against the Teabaggers today in Buffalo, because they all have work or classes.
I was going to go down to downtown Syracuse today to demonstrate in support of the Health Care Bill. I can't go because the car broke down. (My husband had to replace a fuel pump and while he's at it, fix some leaks in the gas tank. He'll have it on the road next week-end.)
My husband is relieved that my kids can't go, and relieved that the car broke down so I can't go today.
This is the first time ever anyone in my family has worried about our safety at a rally or demonstration.
Folks, this is getting serious.
