A year ago, the same group of people that had cheered on George W. Bush's massive government spending and soaring deficits for eight years changed their mind overnight and decided that government spending and deficits were bad, at least they were bad now that they were being done by a black Democrat.
To date, this group has given no reason for their sudden change of heart. What we do know is that the group was organized and funded by the 10 largest Republican think tanks, groups like FreedomWorks. We know that so far in elections, the Tea Partiers have thrown their support behind some of the staunchest Republicans around, all the while claiming that they are "not necessarily Republicans."
The two biggest policy complaints voiced by the Tea Partiers, also known as Tea Baggers, Al-Tea'da and the Tea-liban, were also very odd choices. The stimulus was almost right out of the book of what was called for by Mitt Romney at the end of 2008. Romney called for a stimulus package that would contain spending on infrastructure and tax cuts. That is exactly how one would describe the Stimulus signed into law by President Obama a few months later. The Health Care Reform bill has been described as a combination of what Mitt Romney passed into law in Massachusetts and the Republican compromise offered in the early 1990's as a response to Hillary-care.
Maybe Republicans in congress and Mitt Romney are Socialists? If so, why aren't the Tea-Baggers going after THEM?
Speaking of Socialism, what does the government own now that they did not own when President Obama took office? Nothing. The government does not own healthcare or any part of that industry that they didn't already own when Obama took office. The government does not own the banks or any part of the financial industry.
It doesn't help the Teabaggers cause that the issues they raise are full of lies and red-herrings, "Socialism" being a prime example.
One could also point out that a time of severe economic crisis, where a President was clearly doing what they thought was the right thing and best thing to help the country, was an odd time to be doing everything to make things difficult for said President. It's also pretty darn strange for those folks to claim they are patriots at the same time. I thought that if you hinder a President in a time of crisis, that made you pretty close to a traitor? In fact, as I recall, these same Teabaggers were saying that very thing when we Liberals complained about the Iraq war. The only difference is, there was no crisis in early 2003 when the Iraq war started.
The evidence is in and I think my initial take on this so called movement has turned out to be right on. This Tea Bagging is nothing more than a Republican front replete with people shouting at us to not look behind the curtain. None of these same people complained a whit when four trillion dollars were allocated to pay for a war in Iraq that didn't need to be fought and was based on lies.
The terms the teabaggers use don't mean anything, they are hypocrites on the values and issues they say are important to them, they are puppets well-funded by an established party who wants to pull the strings but doesn't want to be seen as responsible for their puppet's actions. That is who we are dealing with in the TeaBaggers, "Lying, Ignorant Puppets who are STILL a Sham and a Fraud.
