Republican vs Democratic contributions over the past 100 years
Test run of a thought I had, what would be the contributions, by party, to the United States over the past 100 years.

I have a list in my head of Democratic contributions, put on your bipartisan hat and come up with Republican contributions.

BTW Democratic contributions:

New Deal
Civil Rights
Equal Rights
Social Security
Medicare
Healthcare Reform
Economic Growth under Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson,Carter, Clinton

3. Wouldn't NASA be attributed to Kennedy?
I will have to go look.

Interstate Highway, EPA, Clean Air... very socialistic weren't they?

Good list btw.

5. Actually, no.
NASA was established by the National Aeronautics and Space Act on July 29, 1958, replacing its predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The agency became operational on October 1, 1958.

6. It was Carter
He added the Department of Energy, as well as Education.

As for Republican accomplishments, I'd add first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court (Reagan) and the Americans With Disabilities Act and Clean Air Act (liberal but signed by Bush Sr.). Another Democratic one would be the Camp David Accords (Carter).

7. Reagan's role in helping to end the cold war cant be ignored....
... while not a domestic issue, the effect it had on the country is obvious.

16. What role?

Following Nixon's Detente with the Soviets and two US presidential terms embracing it afterwards, Reagan did everything in his power to restore the Iron Curtain. But he failed miserably. Poland was already in virtual revolt before he was sworn into office. Western businesses were flocking into the old Warsaw Pact region with American businesses clamoring to join them.

Ultimately, it came down to a fight between PepsiCo and Reagan. The former were given permission by the Soviets to introduce market-based business into the Soviet Union, while Reagan blocked their move in the US and international courts for several years. Ultimately, the Reagan administration lost, PepsiCo opened up the famous Pizza Hut on Red Square, and communism collapsed while the Republicans looked on in frustration.

Had Reagan gotten the Western world to follow his lead, then the Cold War would still be going strong. Reagan not only had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with ending the Cold War, he actually prolonged it.

9. Republicans successfully started the Civil War
and have been trying to tear the country apart ever since.

(Yes, I know this a little intellectually dishonest as the Republicans were on the right side of history with the Civil War, but the second part of the statement is very accurate)

12. Economic Record/Comparison of Democrats versus Republicans Over last 60 years
THE PARTY WITH THE BEST RECORD OF SERVING REPUBLICAN ECONOMIC VALUES IS THE DEMOCRATS, AND IT ISN'T EVEN CLOSE!"
-Michael Kingsley-

FEDERAL SPENDING: since 1960 Republicans increased Federal Spending by 71% more than have Democrats
FEDERAL DEBT: since 1960 Republicans have increased the National debt by 100% more per year than have Democrats
GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: since 1921, adjusted for inflation, Democrats outproduce Republicans by 43% . Starting in 1940 the Democratic advantage is 23% better.
REAL PER CAPITA INCOME: since 1960 Democrats have outperformed Republicans by 30%. (This is perhaps the most important economic statistic of all).
INFLATION: since 1960, Democrats outperform Republicans 3.13% to 3.89%.
UNEMPLOYMENT: since 1960 it decreases in an average Democratic year by 0.3% to 5.33%, and increases in average Republican year by 1.1% to 6.38%.
JOB CREATION: from 1945 to 2003, Democrats produced 174,200 jobs per month, Republicans have only produced 60,600 per month. Every time a Democrat succeeds a Republican, job creation soars. Every time a Republican succeeds a Democrat job creation plummets. NO EXCEPTIONS!
DOW JONES AVERAGE: since 1921 the DOW has increased by 52% more under Democratic administrations.
THE BOND MARKET: since 1940 the value of 10 year Treasury bonds rose 1.2% under Democrats and fell 0.5% under Republicans.
