Obama calls up the foot soldiers. (Announces "Vote 2010")
Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 08:40 AM by Clio the Leo
The GOP won two governor's houses and one US Senate seat, in part, because OFA made virtually no effort while the teabaggers played us for fools .... that ends today.

"We got to Greenwood and there were 20 people there. And they looked kinda down, kinda sleepy like they didn't want to be there either.... But suddenly I hear this voice crying out behind me. 'FIRED Up! READY TO GO!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjA2nUUsGxw">"Are You STILL Fired UP!?"

This isn't a revolution, this is a BIG F'in DEAL!!!! ... Lets KEEP changing the world!

The President, DNC Chairman Tim Kaine, and the DNC grassroots project Organizing for America this week lay out 2010 election plans in detail for the first time. POTUS’ remarks go out in a 13-million e-mail blast today. Kaine will continue rolling out “Vote 2010” on Wednesday at Dave Cook’s Christian Science Monitor lunch, followed by a strategy session with activists. The DNC will spend $50 million on cash and services, emphasizing turnout of the 15 million voters who came out for the first time in 2008. In an effort to leverage the president’s special relationship with these voters, the video is designed to be sure supporters know that he has a stake in this election, that he is willing to expend his capital and that they should, as well -- that to keep his agenda for change they voted for in 2008 moving forward, they need to support his allies in 2010.

--Script of the video -- The President, taped at the White House on Friday: “Hello, everyone. Today, I’d like to talk with you about the important role each of us will play in 2010 – a role that began more than three years ago, when we set out on an incredible journey to change this country for the better. … A few months ago, we asked you to help us set our priorities for 2010, and let us know how you thought we could win elections at all levels of government. You told us your first priority was to make sure the same people who were inspired to vote for the first time in 2008 go back to the polls in 2010. So that's what we're going to do. … It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African Americans, Latinos, and women, who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again. … If you help us do that – if you help us make sure that first-time voters in 2008 make their voices heard again in November – then together we will deliver on the promise of change, hope, and prosperity for generations to come.”

--WP’s Philip Rucker: “Kaine said Obama plans to frame the elections as a choice between continued Democratic control or a return to Republican power. ‘Our story begins with: Democrats are results people and the Republicans are political obstructionists,’ he said in an interview. ‘Do we want to continue the direction that sees us climbing out of the recession or do we want to go back to the same policies that put us in the ditch in the first place?’”

1. A good, liberal Supreme Court pick will help alot
I can't see a better way to excite the base for the November elections than to name a REAL liberal to replace Justice Stevens...

Actually, unless major financial reform is passed or a public option is put into HCR, no more real chances to fire up the base before November, IMO...

2. They can forget the base
Either they are on board, or they've already lost them. It's the moderates and the independents that they need to get to.

3. Obama needs to get on the campaign trail
Bush did. He traveled all over the country raising money and campaigning for the republicans. If Obama did, he could bring out a lot of voters who would probably sit on their butts. AND WE KNOW WE HAVE THE VOTES. It is just getting them out there.

5. I think this is more about US getting to the OFA or campaign offices to work
The difference in this election is going to be whether we get all those millions of first-time voters back to the polls to vote in a midterm election. That is not a given. In fact, it's likely that without a coordinated effort, those people who voted for Obama--the young and the new--will not vote in November.

Organizing for America has been holding strategy sessions for those who volunteered in any capacity during the last election (or anyone, really) the last month or two. Now training sessions are coming up--in my area, either to be a "team leader" or a "team member." An agenda has been laid out for both legislative (energy, immigration probably) and electoral agendas for the rest of the year. In terms of the election, we'll be canvassing, registering voters, and attending summer events and festivals ... and then hitting a major get-out-the-vote phone-banking initiative in the fall to get those voters back to the polls in state, local, and national elections.

It's easy to sign up and find out where sessions are being held in your area. You can jump in at any time. Just go to http://www.mybarackobama.com

6. "Obama ... (has) had more than twice the number of fundraising appearances than Bush..."
Obama displays plenty of fundraising steam
The president may have lost polling support in the last year, but he shows he can attract cash for Democrats from donors energized in part by his healthcare success.
April 17, 2010|By Peter Nicholas and Tom Hamburger
Reporting from Washington — With midterm elections looming, President Obama is raising campaign money at a ferocious pace, tapping into an energized corps of Democratic donors.

Obama trailed his predecessor, George W. Bush, in the amount of money raised 13 months into their tenures ($32 million to $53 million), but had more than twice the number of fundraising appearances (33 to 13) compared with Bush, who curtailed such travel after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

12/4/09 - "President Obama will kick off his White House to Main Street tour by traveling to Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley to speak directly with Allentown families about both their experiences in this economy and their ideas about job creation. ... As part of his visit to the region, President Obama will tour Allentown Metal Works, make local stops in Allentown to visit with local citizens to discuss job creation and deliver remarks to area students, educators, business owners, and members of the community at Lehigh Carbon Community College."

13. Obama has raised less because Bush Donors were few but had
deep pockets for their cause......

Obama is tapping more for smaller donations.

10. Well...
with a 6% unemployment and a decent DOw Jones... this all becomes irrelevant. And conversely... with 10% unemployment and houses foreclosing daily all the foot soldiers won't help.

who are running against especially assholish republicans, such as Bill Halter running against Blanche Lincoln. He just got a few bucks from me this morning.

It is not much, but it is something positive, and if enough of us do little things, we can kick some GOP ass this fall.

I'd love to see them whine again....
