TPM Financial Reform Wire: Feingold Will Vote Yes Today, Threatens to Filibuster Later

(I stand with Feingold. What we cannot have is financial reform in name only!)
Feingold Will Vote Yes Today, Threatens To Filibuster Later

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) released a statement today saying he intends to vote yes on today's motion to begin debate. He did, however, reserve the right to help block the bill later if it's not strong enough.

"I will not support any predetermined amending process, or as one senator described it, a 'template' for floor consideration that effectively puts the fix in for some negotiated final product," he said.

"Congress needs to get it right this time, and finally enact tough reforms to prevent Wall Street from driving our economy into the ditch again. I will not vote to end debate on this bill unless and until it meets that goal."

1. Feingold is correct.
They should vote to open the debate for amendments to make it stronger and not agree to a pre-plan from Dodd or anyone else.

4. Kucinich blows hard, but accomplishes little. Russ needs to avoid that.

6. Kucinich is in the House where there is no filibuster so most of his stands
on principle do not kill an entire bill like a Feingold filibuster could in the Senate, so I give Kucinich some slack. I actually think you need someone like that to keep you honest, though I agree that most of the time he seems to be tilting at windmills.

5. Well, I can't argue with that
Supposedly there are going to be amendments to make the law tougher, hopefully satisfying him (and some others on both sides). But if they don't begin debate then they can never move to that point.

He needs every single Dem +1 just to get this bill to the floor for debate.
