All my amateur political instincts say that the GOP strategy to OPPOSE Wall Street Reform will... |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 10:24 PM by Writer
mean nothing but BAD things for the GOP in the fall.
This reminds me of Gingrich's misinformed, hysterical strategy to shut down the government during 1995. It looked petulant and pettily political.
The bottom line: This is DUMB. It WON'T work.
And although I hope that financial reform passes, I also hope like hell that the GOP continues its obstinate strategy. The fact is THE GOP SIDES WITH WALL STREET.

2. It reinforces public opinion that the Pubs have ALWAYS |

been aligned with Bib Business & the Dems with the populace. I think it's quite funny. Aparently Luntz or Limpballs must have told them to stick to their position of NO to everything and that's the only people they listen to.

4. Unfortunately If The Dems & The MSM Don't Call The Repugs Out On This..... |
|
and keep the pressure on the Repugs - they'll get away with it. The Dems need to mobilize and make themselves available to blitz the news shows around the clock - calling out the Repugs on this. Keep telling the people that the Repugs are on the side of the banks and that they were the cause and will be the cause again - if we don't get this financial reform. Let's face it - there were a lot of sheeple Repugs that lost money due to the greed of Wall St and the bankers. It's got to sink in to them that this will happen again if they don't get their Repug representatives behind this.

5. I hope so but my estimation of the intelligence of Americans has dropped dramatically. |
|
As well as my estimation of the ability of the Dems to take advantage of political gifts that are dropped in their laps.
Stupid citizens, easily swayed by inflamatory propaganda will vote for anything they are told to.
And Democrats historically never refute lies and inflamatory propaganda.

6. It all depends on how well Democratic candidates run their campaigns. |

It will be about timing, message, and avoiding pitfalls.

The Republican's base of support faults government more than Wall Street for the economic collapse. They still cite minorities getting mortgages that they didn't deserve as the reason.
I don't think that financial reform will sway voters one way or another.

8. Media, media, media ... it ain't 1995 ... |
|
You are right about the "base" but the soft center is where the battle is won or lost ...
The media greatly influences the soft middle - either in terms of the actual REAL information given or the spin ...
95, the media was only slightly right leaning ... Now, it is near totally bought and sold ...
Defending Wall Street is a clear loser for the GOP, but the media won't call it that way. The media will do the "both sides are the same" routine to give the GOP cover ...
It IS good for the democrats in that it is a totally indefensible position, and the best the media can do is spread the blame ... As long as this remains the primary issue, then the media can't be spin something against the Ds soley - see somehow making something everyone believed needed addressed in HCR and turning it into the greatest assault on our country in our history ...

10. They're Cornered And Believe They Have No Choice |
|
Of course, they DO have a choice, but in their demented, sick minds, they don't have a choice and they MUST oppose this.
The smart thing of course would be for them to support the bill and work with the Dems. But of course, that's what they Dems are telling them to do, and so they CAN'T do that!
Love it.
