President Obama emotional at Height funeral
04:17 PM

President Barack Obama wipes away a tear as he sits next to First Lady Michelle Obama at the funeral service for Dr. Dorothy Height at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC, April 29, 2010.

President Obama shed a few tears while attending the funeral of civil rights icon, Dr. Dorothy Height at the National Cathedral in Washington this morning.

Washington heavy hitters, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and some more curious attendees -- boxing promoter Don King and reality star Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth -- joined the president and first lady in celebrating Height's life. Poet Maya Angelou read a psalm, BeBe Winans sang and Camille Cosby spoke.

Obama described Height as "a drum major for justice" during his eulogy, and said that she had visited the White House not once or twice since he's been in office, but 21 times. "We came to love her," he said of getting to know Height with Michelle Obama. "We came to love her stories. We loved her smile. We loved those hats she wore. Regal."

3. I believe it's a look of concern Michele has for her husband
This couple is real and genuine.
Our President is not ashamed to let his emotions show.
Yep, the coke-head drunk Prez before him is/was a fucking embarrasment(and totally clueless to the plight of others)

14. He is doing almost everything he said he'll do, and he's doing
everything he *must* do, even if he hates it. That's what being a president means. Governing is not campaigning. Campaigning is easy. He needs no soul searching. It's everybody around him who needs that.

6. I saw that
I searched until I found it on c-span 2. That BEBE Wynans sure picked the right song. It seemed as though it was meant for him and the song fit his character to the tee.Man we have a real man as President. And it probably took him back to when his grandmother passed. Everybody remember. He gave his speech the night before the election and his grandmother had died and he was crying. I must admit I was crying too!!!I said right then and there we are going to bring this election home,Don't worry Mr.President!!!!And when it was over I made sure everyone I knew had a ride to the polls.

7. I don't blame him. It was an affecting and very emotional event this morning.
Dr. Height meant a lot to many people. She sacrificed a lot so that many folks in America could have better lives of dignity.

She stood on the shoulders of greatness and deserves to be honored as such.

10. I'm sure he was reflecting on his own mother's accomplishments.
It was women such as Dr. Height, his mother and grandmother to allow him to not only suceed but prosper.

11. She had great shoulders. Didn't need to stand on anyone. Horribly ignored by history.

13. You're right. I could've worded it a bit better.
She is greatness personified and lived her life honorably. I certainly hope that there are historians out there who will weave her story into how her work has changed our nation for the better. After all, she has met with all the Presidents since Eisenhower.

Tavis Smiley's "Put the old guards on blast over lack of 'accountability' towards President Obama" tirade?

Doc. Height had visited the WH 21 times, and he (Tavis) had not been getting any invitation to come (rumor has it that he had access the WH during the Clinton years), so he decided to be a jerk about and publicly put her, Obama, and the other four (Jealous, Morial, Sharpton) on blast.

President Obama's eulogy was emotional and heartfelt. Don't blame him for shedding a tear either.

Take your rest, Sister Dorothy, your work on earth will continue for generations to come.

so if he has a mind or a soul, some tears should be shed.
