In GOP race for Congress, 1 drops out, another joins (Kansas)

The race to fill the seat being vacated by U.S. Congressman Dennis Moore no longer will include former State Sen. Nick Jordan of Shawnee. But as soon as Jordan dropped out, a Shawnee businesswoman and fellow Republican joined the field for Moore’s 3rd District seat.

Jordan was the Republican nominee for the 3rd District in 2008 and lost to Moore, a five-term incumbent, 56 to 40 percent. While Moore announced he would not seek re-election this year, his wife, Stephene Moore, has announced she would run for her husband’s seat as a Democrat.

Jordan was one of nine people seeking to be the Republican nominee in this year’s race for the 3rd District seat. But, he noted in his statement dropping out of the race, “with so many candidates in the Republican primary for the U.S. House of Representatives, I fear we could provide an opening for our liberal congressman’s liberal wife to sneak into office in his place.”

The size of the field didn’t seem to be a concern for Jean Ann Uvodich, an attorney and former CPA, who announced she would file as a Republican for the seat Thursday.
