It's not Katrina
This oil spill is not Katrina.

Not politically, financially, in human life, in human misery and probably not even environmentally.

It is a bad oil spill. It is a big deal. But it will not fixate the nation. Average Americans will not blame or credit Obama one way of the other.

It will have some temporary effect on US energy policy, will be tragic for a lot of sea-life and will hurt Louisiana businesses.

But it's not Katrina.

1. I'm pretty sure it'll be Obama's Killing Fields. Why do you support killing Cambodians?

2. I thought Haiti was Obama's Katrina.
The one that he didn't respond to... err, no wait, he responded to that.

The floods in the Midwest, that's his Katrina! No, wait, he responded appropriately to that too.

The volcano in Iceland? No, that doesn't work.

Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! I want Obama to do a Katrina! Why doesn't he so I can be upset about it! So much for change, Mr. Obama!

3. I predicted days ago that the media would start "questioning" whether or not this is Obama's Katrina
I saw reporters asking Gibbs many questions about how slow or fast the govt.'s response was. :eyes:

24. Definitely bad news for the party or politician in power when something like this hits.
A challenge at the very least.

The coincidence of this event with Obama's endorsement of expansion is not exactly helping him either.

12. Andrea Mitchell JUST LINKED the two! She asked why this admin didn't do more to prevent this.
:wtf: She wanted to know why this administration didn't probe more into the actual amount of oil spilling.

I don't understand her logic! This is BPs fault.

16. As many as it takes for something to damage his presidency
That's apparently what some are wishing for in the MSM and on DU alike. Vultures waiting for some carrion. On an individual basis, what a way to spend one's time.

17. A Katrina moment needs to equal humans suffering in squalid conditions with no food or water.
Environmentally, the oil spill will probably be terrible. Of course, that region is already a dead zone due to chemical and fertilizer spill off from the Mississippi River. Nonetheless, it will make the area even worse.
But to have a Katrina in my mind means to turn your back on people who need help in a time of need. Obama has not turned his back on this. Some like hyperbole in both parties I guess.
