Aren't there hundreds of thousands if not millions of people protesting in the streets today? |
|
Edited on Sat May-01-10 01:05 PM by jenmito
I haven't seen any video of any immigration law protests today, but every time the teabaggers had ANY size gathering, it was covered wall-to-wall, greatly exaggerated numbers of people in the crowds, etc.

3. Jeez-so there will even be protestors in DC with Rep. Gutierrez there, and NO |
|
coverage? And that's not even mentioning the "millions expected" compared to the "ten thousand expected" for a teabag rally which was covered (even though only about 1,500 showed up)?!

5. That on top of AZ 1070 being framed as an "immigration law" |
|
when it also impacts voting Latino citizens.
More than 30% of the AZ pop is Latino. Voter suppression, right under our noses.

6. Yup, the main reason for the anger is that the law targets ALL people who "look like" |
|
"illegal immigrants"-with no valid reason necessary. The majority of those targeted will be citizens.

7. It's all out in the open now. People get frustrated with the low turn out |
|
among Latinos. Well, this stuff has been happening at a lower level all along. Latinos have been getting the message that their participation is not welcomed. That's the only way I can explain the change from hearty participation across the border and what looks like listlessness up here among Latino citizens.
In the end, we'll have to thank the Republicans for finally getting the Latino vote out. But, the truth is, we've done very little so far to attend to this problem of vote suppression against Latino communities.

9. Well, the turnout today is definitely HIGH... |
|
from CNN's reports/videos, there are way more people than even hoped for-in LA and other places. Yes, we can thank the racist Repubs. for the incentive to mobilize.

people and they "definitely delivered." They showed the crowd and it went on endlessly from what it looked like.

Local news is also covering it, because, well, Portland tends to consider protest as important as our sports teams.
