Fieger: I will not run for governor

Southfield attorney Geoffrey Fieger does not intend to take another shot at becoming governor of Michigan, he announced this morning.

Fieger, 59, defeated by incumbent Gov. John Engler when he ran in 1998, made his announcement during a broadcast of WDIV-TV Channel 4's "Flashpoint" program.

Although he attacked those running, saying they were making a living "running for office," he said he would not run, adding he wanted to avoid becoming the issue in the race. The issue, he said, is "resurrecting" Michigan.
