Florida: Garcia Moves to DCCC's 'Red to Blue' List

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Monday will announce that it's adding Joe Garcia to it's "Red to Blue" program which targets GOP-held districts, according to a source close to the campaign.

Garcia, formerly the chairman of the Miami-Dade County Democratic Party, is running again in South Florida's 25th district after coming within 6 points of beating Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R) in 2008. Last cycle Garcia proved a prolific fundraiser, eventually raising about $1.8 million after entering the contest in February 2008.

Garcia was heavily recruited by DCCC officials earlier this year after Diaz-Balart announced his intention to give up his current seat in order to run in the neighboring 21st district. Garcia's entry into the race in April brought cheers from Democrats, who are trying to play some offense in a cycle in which they are mostly playing defense.
