I can't stand how we are seeing the politization of the BP Gulf War Oil Spill now...
OK, it's in part exactly why deregulation regarding the oil industry is as bad as deregulation of communications, banking, housing and other sectors has been wreaking havoc in our lives and livelihood.

We can thank Reagan, the Bush's and Clinton for all this dastardly lack of tasteful humanity.

But, now we face an incredible environmental disaster that literally seemed to come out of nowhere. Yes, it's based on the usual suspects, insidious greed and myopic carelessness. Those two have been busy for quite a few years, if not decades.

The Deepwater Horizon well could release 50,000 barrels a day into the ocean, with implications for marine life around the globe that are difficult to comprehend.

BP. Halliburton. Bush/Cheney. Yes, we can blame them.

But we must first STOP the bleeding as one human force if at all possible. It is of utterly complete importance that we set the blame aside for the moments until we get the disaster to be on its final stages.

But, you know as well as I know that we are kidding ourselves with this approach. AND you and I know that all the people and interests and politicians who help deregulate the oil industry will walk away unscathed and/or pay a nominal penalty for the complete damage that may seem unrecoverable for decades.

3. The processes don't get divided neatly -
There's a lot going on. It's curious to hear a suggestion that evidence that assigns responsibility be filtered out, somehow.

4. It's funny some people suggesting this is Obama's Katrina.
Well it was until the dead starting washing up on shore. I got the same sick feeling I had during Katrina. We need a miracle.

6. :)
I bought into Healthy SF (local medical "insurance") and am on the upside of some health issues. Yaaaaay healthcare!

Although I've been thinking about it for a long while, I'm seriously maneuvering to move to New Orleans probably, hopefully within a year. Between Katrina and this ecoclusterfuck, I just want to be there and help in any way I can. America looks at this as a regional catastrophe, not a national one. It's going to get pretty awful down there.

I hope you are well. It's so great to *see* you.

Cheers.

7. Politicizing serves one purpose...
Edited on Mon May-03-10 11:11 PM by CoffeeCat
...and one purpose only--to provide a shiny object that can deflect from
the real issue here--that we need to find REAL solutions to prevent this
from ever happening again.

That means, lessening our oil dependence and writing tougher regulation on
the oil industry. That means that our politicians must stand up to the
companies and lobbyists.

The powers that be---can't have any of that. So they create a distraction.

They make this about Obama and they blame it on the liberals. They make
outlandish claims and spout lies--so we'll turn our heads toward the debate
and toward the politicians and right-wing radio hosts who make outlandish
comments.

All of it is bunk. It is manufactured distraction.

The left and the right is being used big time. They foster hatred between us
to keep us too busy to make meaningful change. They figure, that if we hate
each other and if we're fighting back and forth--that we'll never be strong
enough TOGETHER, to stand up to them.

And once again...they are spot on.
