Angela Hicks Drops Out of 8th District Race for Congress

Republican Angela Hicks says she's dropping out of the Eighth Congressional District race to support Austin Scott.

The Macon businesswoman qualified last week to challenge Congressman Jim Marshall, but said she notified the Georgia Secretary of State's office that she was withdrawing before last Friday's deadline.

That means she got her $5,220 qualifying fee back, she says, and she plans to return part of her campaign funds back to her donors.

Hicks said Monday that Scott, a state representative from Tifton, has the best chance to beat Marshall this year, and a tough primary race for the nomination would hurt his chances.

"Congressman Marshall has a huge war chest, and it's going to take another huge war chest to get the message across," she said.
