1. The LibDems have been around for years.
They have held seats too.

2. It looks like it will end up being a minority Government like Canada has....
It will be interesting to follow this to see how the Brits. deal with it. They have not had a minority Govt. in 36 years.

5. Under some circumstances they say Liz can step in and create order, but I think
so far - Tories have too many more than Labour to play nice with either Labour or Liz.

4. Fuck them for giving people choice in a democracy
Do not say fuck off to the "democracy" for punishing choice

6. Didn't say that.
But look to Canada when a MUCH weaker party makes it possible for the EVIL party to win an election.

Conservatives count on liberals to not be able to get along.

8. But I did. Fuck them. And fuck the NDP too
What did those socialists ever contribute to Canada without winning an election!

Its not the concept of democracy that one should be attacking, but the lame ass-backwards first-past-the-post bullshit voting systems that allow parties with the least public support to win election.

7. Labour doesn't deserve to rule after Iraq.
Frankly, if I were in Britain, my vote would have gone to the Lib-Dem candidate. We need a strong third party here in America.

10. I understand that and basically agree, but
the Brits are out of there and Brown ousted Blair for that very reason, among others.

9. Not a valid comparison
That's almost exactly the same number of seats as the Lib Dems have now; in the 2005 elections, after allowing for the boundary changes, 44 of the seats that the Lib Dems won had the Tories in 2nd; 18 had Labour in 2nd. So you can argue they take more seats away from the Tories than Labour, but the main thing is they compete with both.

11. New Labor is a JOKE, and deserved to lose.
Lib Dems actually did considerably worse than expected. They're no spoiler here.

15. So the Lib Dems can join with Labour to form a government, yes?
So instead of Tories, we get a coalition...

Clegg backtracked on that later though

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/election-2010/7635631/Nick-Clegg-drops-opposition-to-coalition-deal-with-third-placed-Labour.html

But that was under the premise that he would of beaten labour:

"He ruled out a coalition with Mr Brown at the helm but indicated he was open to a deal if David Miliband or Alan Johnson was Labour leader, even if the party comes third in the popular vote."

Didn't happen as it appeared it could have. So he would essentially have to form a coalition as a rejected party with another party that is less rejected than his own (and be subservient). I think it would make him look like a hypocrite

18. A very ignorant statement
I wish we had an equivalent to the Liberal Democrats in America!

The US House is totally undemocratic, having frozen its size to 435 since 1911. Together with gerrymandering, and with the 2-major parties designing a scheme in which many seats are safe, this has the effect of diluting the vote of large urban areas and thwarting the popular will.

Electoral reform is a must!

19. If we were a parliamentary system, the Greens would have won about 12 seats in 2000
I hate the greens as much as anybody, but that is not a fair comparison.
