Bielat to challenge Frank for Congress

Sean Bielat, a Brookline consultant and an officer in the Marine Corps Reserve, formally kicked off his bid for Congress today against US Representative Barney Frank.

Bielat, a 34-year-old Republican, said he was driven to run in part because he believes Congress is "unconcerned with preserving the strength of our military and the security of our ports and borders." He also said he was worried about the federal deficit, and a regulatory climate that he said was hurting business and employees alike.

"We are becoming a country whose political leadership believes that its people don’t understand their own needs -- that they can’t be trusted to spend and invest their own money, that the government’s true role is to protect the people from themselves," he said at this morning's launch in Brookline, according to prepared remarks. "Our political leadership seems to believe that we will be made whole through government regulations, government spending, and government programs."

Bielat is clearly hoping that his bid to dislodge Frank from his 4th district seat elevates his campaign.
