"Who would really want this job for more than one term? ...But I have to run now, otherwise it'll mean letting someone like Mitt Romney step in and get credit for the good stuff that happens after we've been through all this crap."

--President Obama in November, 2009, as reported by Jonathan Alter in his new book "The Promise."

1. I really hope that doesn't mean he's begging off in 2012.

2. He won't.
He'll run. And, most likely win. He knows this, that's why he'll run again.

4. That's just his dry wit.
It's an extension of his self-deprecating humor. ;)

5. He's not seeing that the second term is MUCH easier than the first for most
Clinton was an exception. I suppose W. thinks term 2 was worse than term 1, but truthfully his first term was much more challenging. In his 2nd term, he had major challenges but he just didn't address them (e.g. Katrina, economy, Iraq, etc) because he wasn't running for re-election. But, as he is all about himself, i'm sure he felt less loved in the 2nd term, so he probably liked it less.

As Obama implied, by the 2nd term, people feel the effect of the 1st term. That's why folks hated W. in 04-08 and why Obama's 1st term is so hard. His good works now will only be appreciated after 2012.

6. Conventional wisdom has been that term one is spent learning the ropes,
the first half of term two is spent actually getting stuff done, and the second half of term two is spent discovering what "Lame Duck" means

7. President Obama is speaking as
someone who is actually doing the work and the massive cleanup after 8 years of the maruaders plundering and pillaging.

Hopefully, it will work out that when 2012 rolls around the Planets will be aligned for him to continue..if not then we'll see what fresh hell the corporatemediawhores have bought for the USA.
