NBC/WSJ Poll - Obama Approval Rating: 50 (+2), 44 (-3). More Numbers Inside
Edited on Wed May-12-10 08:18 PM by MadBadger
Improvements over the last time NBC had their poll in the field. At the same time, very troubling numbers.

64% support the Arizona immigration Law. At the same time, 61% think its likely that the law will lead to discrimination of Hispanics.

60% support more off shore drilling.

51% support racial profiling in the fight for terrorism, which isnt really all that surprising considering their views on the immigration law.

The Generic Ballot is tied at 44 here.

1. I'm glad popular will has not historically prevailed on immigration policy.
Occasionally it does like in 1882 with the Chinese Exclusion Act or in 1921 with one of the most severe anti-immigration laws ever, but generally knee-jerk populism hasn't governed us on that front. This has been a good thing.

6. Actually, the future will be far better. Older voters vote more in midterms.
And they are frankly getting, well....old. Hispanics are growing in size and may turn to Dems in bigger #'s. The Rethug demos are not good for their future. Maybe not this year but in the future their over 50 all white and more male demo will be losing more power. But hey, the teabaggers want ultra conservatives.

10. Of course you're right.
I should have said I weep for the immediate future. It's just difficult to watch a bunch of bigoted people get their way, even temporarily.

4. Obama is pretty much like Regan. He's Teflon to some people
Maybe even moreso than Regan. Especially when you consider how negative the Media is. Its amazing his Approval is still that High.

Which tells you, he could save Democrats if he was tougher and attacked Republicans on the issues and their obstructionism. But for some reason he appears afraid to do so. That nice guy crap may keep him popular amongst the majority of the country. But it won't help his party. When you hear Republicans talk they aren't trying to run against him, they put everything on Democrats in Congress.
