Hawaii's anti-'birther' bill becomes law
Dave Weigel

After grappling with the legality of the legislation-- making sure that it did not hurt the public's access to any other government records -- Gov. Linda Lingle (R-Hawaii) has signed into law a bill that protects state employees from having to answer harassing requests about President Barack Obama's citizenship.

The new law, Act 100, allows state agencies a limited exemption from Freedom of Information requirements when duplicative requests for information are made by the same person. Although the law covers all agencies, the measure targets people who repeatedly request a copy of Obama's Hawai'i birth certificate.

That's still an unwelcome precedent, but according to state employees the requests were just out of control.

1. I don't blame them. I heard they received over 2 million in
less than a month! The Governor told the state employees to simply respond by telling the requestors to view it online!

3. Good.
I can't imagine how much less work those poor folks got done solely because of birther madness.

8. I just didn't want people to think I was comparing the birthers to, you know, normal people
requesting birth records for other reasons.

11. If you hadn't mentioned it
I wouldn't have known to fix it and then it really didn't make much sense. I like the term 'birther madness.'

4. Just one question what do you think would have happened
to all the people who are stirring this up over and over if they were trying to pull this on Bush. Look at the mess about his National Guard stint. Look at all the clerks sent to the NARA to destroy all records of his AWOL stint. Look at all the records that were destroyed every where else. And look at what they did to the CBS guy.

Someone like Orly would have been convicted and jailed. Of what I don't know but I bet they would have been sentenced to a long long sentence.

10. I realize that's a hypothetical question...
... but the only place you can get that kind of redneck (like *) is in the good old US of A.

9. A very interesting line from another article...
Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino previously has issued statements saying that she's seen vital records that prove Obama is a natural-born American citizen.

lol has Dr. Fukino seen the infamous "long form"? :)

... where it lists Obama's father as "God" ? (heh, KIDDING!)

13. We were wondering if lingle would sign it..
Good to see she did. Hawai'i has their state to deal with ..not some drooling idiots that glen beck sends out to do damgage with their inability to comprehend basic facts.
