I have a hard time wrapping my mind around why folks would get upset that Obama mentioned 9/11 multiple times when discussing Afghanistan. Don't folks realize how the hell we got there?

Its not like he is talking about Iraq, he was talking about Afghanistan, which the overwhelming number of Americans felt it was acceptable to invade because of 9/11.

42. You're right....
.... sometimes it's best to just take what people say at face value and not try to read more into it than what's there. My apology.

We did not ask for this fight. On September 11, 2001, nineteen men hijacked four airplanes and used them to murder nearly 3,000 people.

They struck at our military and economic nerve centers. They took the lives of innocent men, women, and children without regard to their faith or race or station. Were it not for the heroic actions of the passengers on board one of those flights, they could have also struck at one of the great symbols of our democracy in Washington, and killed many more.

As we know, these men belonged to al Qaeda

(edited to remove a subject I shouldn't have brought up to begin with)

You know, whenever someone was attempting to start a grass-roots movement, when they wanted to try to alter the course of history by convincing other people to join them in crying out against what they perceived to be a government that was acting improperly. They spoke to other people with words of compassion and brotherhood. They made their fellow citizens want to join with them not out of bitter in-fighting, instead, they found a common enemy and encouraged other people to rally against that enemy with them.

I'm not sure that snark-slinging ever won anyone any compatriots.

No dear, that was IRAQ had nothing to do with 9/11 -- Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11.

Afghanistan, the Taliban, and al Qaeda, whom the Taliban hosted, had a lot to do with 9/11.

Here's wikipedia on the most noted of the 9/11 bombers, Mohammaed Atta:

Born in a small town in the Nile Delta, Egypt in 1968, Atta moved with his family to the Abdeen section of Cairo at the age of 10. Atta studied architecture at Cairo University, and went to Hamburg, Germany in 1992 to continue his studies at the Technical University of Hamburg, where he remained a student until fall 1999. In Hamburg, Atta became involved with the Al-Quds Mosque. At some point, he met Marwan al-Shehhi, Ramzi Binalshibh, and Ziad Jarrah who all became part of the Hamburg cell.

Atta disappeared from Germany for periods of time,

spending some time in Afghanistan, including several months in late 1999 and early 2000 when he met Osama bin Laden and other top Al-Qaeda leaders.

Atta and the other Hamburg Cell members were recruited by Bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed for the "planes operation" in the United States.

Atta returned to Hamburg in February 2000, reported his passport stolen and obtained a clean passport.

In late March 2000, Atta began contacting flight schools in the United States, inquiring about training...

Even though Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 it was used as a hammer to beat people into acceptance. There are less than 100 Al qaeda in Afghanistan and now the President says the main focus is the Taliban who had nothing to do with 9/11 and yet the first thing the President said was.....9/11.

We invaded Afghanistan because Bush didn't give the Taliban the time they needed to ask their ISI patrons what to do about bin Laden.
