Say what you want at least Specter has class
Edited on Wed May-19-10 02:15 AM by SpartanDem
"Congratulations, Congressman Sestak. You have my support for the general election." There is a certain senator from Connecticut that could learn a lesson in being not only being classy, but a Democrat. I've been ambivalent about whole PA primary thing Specter was an opportunist, but at least he towed the line and didn't hold his party hostage. So for that I wish Specter all the best in future and that Joe Sestak kicks Toomey's teabagging ass.

1. Specter can't pull a Lieberman.
Pennsylvania state law prevents candidates who lose party primaries from running as independents in the general election.

14. None that you know about.
I suspect that in the room with Biden and Obama where Specter discussed switching parties, part of the agreement was that Specter would do what the Dems wanted him to do and Obama would try to help him get reelected.

I mean, Specter SAID that. "Being a Democrat will help me get reelected." Sestak ran ads with that line.

I honestly think a Sestak win is better for us in the long run and I suspect the White House knows that too. Sestak is young enough to campaign vigorously (which is exactly what is going to be needed...he's going up against teabagger darling Pat Toomey) and he's not an incumbent, which means he doesn't go into the game with a handicap.

13. I don't think Arlen had the stones to run as an independent anyway,
but it's good to know that the law is in place.

4. And now the Administration can gracefully turn and embrace Sestak . . .
Without embarassment.

15. +1
I always wondered what he knows about JFK. He wasn't involved himself, but he helped cover it up.

9. What's your definition
of the term class? If it contains lowlife and liar, then I'd agree Specter has that.

10. I thought the same last evening...
...even if he did not mean a word of it, Specter at least said the correct words and wore the correct face.

11. Well, since I can say what I want....
I would be very leery of counting on someone whose core values and political alliances seem to shift as needed to save his own sorry ass.

16. Sestak also said some nice words about Specter
but then, outside of the Senate, Sestak would not be considered a spring chicken either. (I actually thought he was younger than he is. hard to believe he's 58.)
