Joe Sestak: Arlen Specter "has done good things for Pennsylvania". What a gracious speech.
Check out Joe Sestak's victory speech in its entirety:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53-e16RfehI

He started out speaking of his win representing a victory over Washington DC, which is pretty apt given how the White House and the Dem machine backed Specter. But later in his speech (which was quieter and more poignant), Joe started out with a moment of silence for those serving in the military overseas. Next at 6:30, he thanked Arlen Specter for his service -- not just an obligatory sentence but he named specific things Specter has done for Pennsylvania over the years.

I don't know why others on this board felt they needed to spread bad information, but Sestak was extremely gracious toward Arlen Specter and hit all the right notes for a general election. I think prospects are quite good for Democrats in Pennsylvania in an otherwise tough year.

1. Sestak was always the better bet in the general.
Despite the claims to the contrary that we used to read here all the time--until today, when suddenly everyone was "for" him.

2. Has anyone compared Joe Sestak's speech with
Rand Paul's speech?

As I understand it, Paul refused to take his opponent's concession call.

I'm glad I am a Democrat.

3. White House "job offer" may be his undoing.
That was an incredibly stupid thing to utter and you can bet the right is going to go crazy with it.

I always thought he was the better candidate but how is he going to back track on that?

4. That is no longer a problem actually. It only was a political football
when he was at odds with the WH. With Specter out of the way, there will be Dem unity. Well, after Rendell gets over his bitterness of losing, that is.

5. There are still a few "problem children...
one being my Sen from NE, Ben Nelson, the others are Landrieu and Lincoln.

Lincoln may not be an option soon though.

It still comes down to D's in the States to get out and vote. I think the R's may sit on their hands this time around...even if they don't, if D's get behind candidates, we'll crush not just the Teabaggers, but the GOP as well...:woohoo:

7. Thank you beachmom
I had the great pleasure to be near the front of the crowd while Joe gave that speech. There were many people in the crowd who have a lot of anger at Specter, but when Joe said that everyone applauded. I really appreciated Joe acknowledging Specter positively the way he did. I thought it was gracious and much needed.

that's what's needed..graciousness and civil behavior. Not this vicious vinDICtiveness that gets no one anywhere.

10. You're welcome!
I think some people who have heard things they didn't like about Sestak, will for the most part be pleasantly surprised when they learn more about him. He does have room for improvement in some areas but I have watched him grow quickly as a politician since he started his first campaign (I was also lucky to be at front row center that day, and it was pure luck... I had no idea :) ); I think he will just get better and better and the Toomey campaign is not going to be a match for Joe Sestak with the big dems working FOR him.

12. Sestak's oponent - Pat Toomey- has alreeady started lies about Sestak in his
GOP "victory" speech last night. Toomey stated Sestak and the Democrats will increase taxes, take over private enterprise and take away personal freedom. Sound familiar?
