2. What a disaster this man has made of his life!!! |
|
Edited on Wed May-19-10 11:55 AM by Beacool
And all for what? A roll in the hay with some chick?
When are some men going to learn to think with the head that is on their shoulders, instead on the one below their waist?

Some men like to court disaster. I love Bill, but at times I wished that I could have smacked him upside down the head and yell at him to "Grow up!!!".

But as I told the wife (a major fan) "Even _I_ didn't think he was THAT stupid".

"The" wife? Is that anything like "the" cat, or "the" car? I guess it is just the feminist in me showing, but is she a possession?

Didn't know Zipplewrath was Irish did ya?
It's actually LESS possessive, which can be equally insulting in a way, sorta nonpersonal.
But really it comes from a cultural tendency to speak in the third person.
"Me self was headed down to the pub when we came upon a wee one...."

has no place to go but up. Cause he sure is face down in the ditch.
Maybe an "epiphany" can be arranged after the plea? And then he needs to spend 8-10 years in the monastery of his choice, listening to the sound of cawing crows.

30. Narcissists don't really apologize |
|
When they make an attempt, it looks insincere, which it is.
John's used up his one "I'm sorry" card. The only thing that will help him now is to DO some good and get admiration for that. Words won't help him. He's going to have to live better. Or maybe he'll just go play golf with OJ Simpson at Florida resorts. They can practice with tarballs.

31. It always amazed me that people believed in his complete sincerity |
|
in that "I'm sorry" when in saying what he was sorry for he smoothly minimized what his position was before. Even though his 2002/2003 positions were well documented, people believed him -- likely because they wanted to believe.
But, on this, he already had his public confession in August 2008 - and he lied in it.

10. Buy the Enquirer to find out ... |
|
He needs a plea deal all right. White Collar Crime tho--nobody takes it seriously...complicity everywhere.
It would be better for the system if he goes to jail, but then if so, everybody involved in similar stuff laughs, because the Feds got their sacrificial victim and that insulates them from getting caught.
I'm ambivalent because of the arbitrary nature of these investigations....they can't begin to cope with the extent of the problem. So they settle for making examples. And I'm not a John Edwards fan.

During an unsuccessful campaign for governor of New York in 1804, Burr was often criticized in published articles written by Alexander Hamilton, a longtime political rival and son-in-law of Philip Schuyler, the first U.S. senator from New York, whom Burr defeated in Schuyler's bid for re-election in 1791. Taking umbrage at remarks made by Hamilton at a dinner party and Hamilton's subsequent failure to account for the remarks, Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel on July 11, 1804, at the Heights of Weehawken in New Jersey, in which he mortally wounded Hamilton. Burr was indicted for murder in both New York and New Jersey (though these charges were either later dismissed or resulted in acquittal), and the harsh criticism and animosity directed towards him brought an end to his political career in the East, though he remained a popular figure in the West and South. Further, Hamilton's death would fatally weaken the remnants of the Federalist Party.
After Burr left the vice-presidency at the end of his term in 1805, he journeyed into what was then the West, particularly the Ohio River Valley and the lands acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. Burr was preparing to lead a filibuster into the Spanish possessions in Mexico in case of war with Spain, which would have been of dubious legality considering the Neutrality Act of 1794. Due to various rumors regarding Burr's plan to secede from the United States and form his own monarchy in the western half of North America (known as the Burr conspiracy), Burr was arrested in 1807 and brought to trial on charges of treason, for which he was acquitted by the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Marshall in the landmark case US v. Burr (1807).<2> After several years in self-imposed exile in Europe, Burr returned to practicing law in New York City and lived a largely reclusive

37. I am stunned that many here are making it just about his having an affair |
|
I realize that the affair was the root of this, but it really is incidental. The legal problem is that he used the campaign as a piggy bank to funnel money to his mistress thinking to hide that he was having an ongoing affair with a woman pregnant with his child. Had he been a CEO of a publicly traded company and used corporate funds (to conceal it from his wife), he would be in similar hot water.
Much has been said of the immorality of his actions. Knowledge of the affair and its length, while he was pledging undying devotion to Elizabeth was enough to kill any future trust in him. Remember Elizabeth, in her book and in interviews speaking of how John was willing to shave his hair when she was losing hers? But, had he used his own money to support her, he would have no legal issues - except his divorce hearings next year.
Reports indicate that he used campaign money and money from his poverty center for Hunter. Both have legal obligations as to what money can be used for and very detailed reporting requirements. It shows how arrogant this "brilliant" lawyer was that he thought no one would see this. Not to mention, it is not at all clear that he didn't misuse Bunnie Mellon's money. In essence he might have embezzled money given for his campaign - or worse, to a charity that was suppose to be working against poverty.
I wish for the Democrats' sake that there is nothing chargeable here and this will end. It is also hard to imagine how the Edwards' kids deal with this.
