2nd Grader Tells Michelle: "My mom doesn't have papers..."
Edited on Wed May-19-10 03:52 PM by Clio the Leo
Oh dear for so MANY reasons ... oh dear for the little one's mama ... and bless Michelle for aptly handling a difficult question.

First lady on immigration at school
By MATT NEGRIN | 05/19/10 3:05 PM

The first ladies of the United States and Mexico visited a school in Silver Spring, Md., Wednesday, where a second-grade girl asked Michelle Obama for reassurance about her own family's legal status.

Even as President Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon were denouncing Arizona's crackdown on illegal immigration, the student told Michelle Obama: “My mom said that, I think that she — she says that Barack Obama's taking everybody away that doesn't have papers.”

The first lady replied: “Yeah, well, that's something that we have to work on, right? To make sure that people can be here with the right kind of papers, right? That's exactly right.”

“But my mom doesn't,” the girl said.

In response, Obama said: “We have to work on that. We have to fix that. And that everybody's got to work together in Congress to make sure that that happens.

Notice that she's echoing what the President said during the presser that was happening simultaneously, "I need some help!"

The media's all over this. It's heartbreaking for that little girl & her family.

6. I wonder who the hell told the kid's mother that Obama was deporting those without papers?
Sounds to me like someone is trying to keep pressure on the mother to do their bidding.
