Biden: I Look Forward To Campaigning For Sestak

Biden: I Look Forward To Campaigning For Sestak

Nick Broten

Vice President Joe Biden released the following statement today on last night's Democratic primary in Pennsylvania:

Arlen Specter is one of my closest friends. He has served Pennsylvania with determination, wisdom, and skill for many years. I was proud to play a role in his return to the Democratic Party; his votes to pass the Recovery Act and health insurance reform were courageous and critical to our success. I look forward to working with him during the rest of this year, and remaining in close contact with him after his term in Washington is finished.

I spoke to Joe Sestak last night and congratulated him on his impressive victory. He will make a great candidate in the fall, and a wonderful United States Senator. I look forward to campaigning for him in Pennsylvania and celebrating his victory in November.

1. Politicians!
I'll take Sestak's words over Biden's tired old politics:

"This is what Democracy looks like," Sestak told his supporters Tuesday night. "A win for the people - over the establishment, over the status quo, even over Washington, D.C."

15. Love Sestak's WORDS..
"Sestak said he was "gratified" by Obama's call, adding, "I want to be a strong ally of him, one of the strongest allies, but obviously not a yes man and I'm looking forward to this next election."

"Couldn't have been nicer," Sestak said."

President Obama doesn't need "yes men" or women..he needs the best!..And he appreciates them!

6. Sestak...the progressive change agent, who is for the war in Afghanistan
Edited on Wed May-19-10 05:40 PM by Jennicut
Sestak knows the right words to use and I like him as the Dem candidate in PA much better then I did Specter. But there needs to be some reality.
Biden and Obama will campaign for Sestak. I don't see the big deal.

7. Sestak shows an intellectual integrity that is lacking in the Beltway
Would you trust someone that tries to undo you at every turn and that, once he fails miserably, comes back to say how much he liked you to begin with. We wouldn't tolerate such nonsense in our personal lives, nor should we from politicians.

9. Okay. But how is Sestak changing the status quo in DC?
Edited on Wed May-19-10 06:03 PM by Jennicut
He voted yes on HCR(you know, the one with the mandates), yes to send more troops to Afghanistan. I thought real progressives were against that. I said he was better then Specter. Sestak voted for Obama's ideas.

12. So Rahm got egg on his face? That is it?
Specter was voting with Obama before he lost, though I am glad he is gone. Sestak will pretty much vote with Obama.

13. Specter is a POS--regardless of what letter he hides behind
Sestak is not my brand of leftist, but he is more trustworthy than those fossils we have in the Beltway to whom lying and laying in bed with corporations is second nature.

21. I disagree with him on Afghanistan
Despite what the self-described "moderates" say about progressives, we don't demand 100-percent litmus tests. The DLC is the one that never compromises on anything, while the rest of us saw our beloved Single Payer kept off the table, and the public option watered down until it was unrecognizable.

We owe Rahm all those blue dogs that voted for such gems as the Stupak amendment and the Ben Nelson Nebraska giveaway.

While we are on the topic: Bye, bye, Blanche Lincoln!

23. Sestak: White House Offered Job To Keep Me Out Of Race (21-Feb-2010)
Sestak: White House Offered Job To Keep Me Out Of Race. White House Denies It.

By Susie Madrak Sunday Feb 21, 2010 6:00pm

So Joe Sestak says the White House offered him a job to keep him from running against Specter. That part doesn't surprise me; I imagine the White House did try to keep him out of the race. The part that's fascinating is that Sestak went public with it.

In politics, other politicians need to trust you - and your sense of discretion. Embarrassing the White House publicly probably isn't a good way to build relationships:

In the face of a White House denial, U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak stuck to his story yesterday that the Obama administration offered him a "high-ranking" government post if he would not run against U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania's Democratic primary.

8. Wow, what was that all about??? People, don't burst an artery, geez!
I don't think Dumbya and his administration received as much viciousness as some have displayed here against Obama. But, Obama is doing a good job which is all that matters.

But he's been a class act on this one, as he often is.

Good Navy training?

26. Indeed! I wanted to join, but then Vietnam came along.
And I was happy enough that my number got called up.

That said, I have a deep love for ships and the sea and naval history.

Visit historic ships and used to build models of them.

Etc.
