Demand that the media refer to the Gulf oil spill as "Deepwater Horizon Ecocide"

The term "ecocide" has been used as far back as the 1960s and can be best defined as:

In April 2010, UK Lawyer Polly Higgins proposed to the United Nations that ecocide be recognised as an international Crime Against Peace alongside Genocide, Crimes of Humanity, War Crimes and Crimes of Aggression, triable at the International Criminal Court. The definition proposed is:

Ecocide: the extensive destruction, damage to or loss of ecosystem(s) of a given territory, whether by human agency or by other causes, to such an extent that peaceful enjoyment by the inhabitants of that territory has been severely diminished.

At the very least, BP Exploration (British Petroleum) should face charges as participants of ecocide and be punished as a corporate entity that are as guilty as those who commit war crimes.

We need to lobby and petition our leaders to have the UN enact ecocide as an official international crime NOW.

2. WTF? Do you want no one to have any idea what you're talking about?
If you have to link and quote a paragraph to explain a word, then it's not a very effective word to communicate something to the public.

3. Um, i figured a nice definition was in order to explain the term
My bad.

That's "not a very effective word to communicate something to the public"? Really? Are you suggesting I not have a definition of a term to compound my point?

5. Sure, define it.
But why would I demand that the press use a term that will never have meaning for most of the public. I'd rather demand the media use a term that's going to connect with people. Something like:
BP's environmental crime of the century
BP's ocean-genocide

6. Face it. I know the mainstream media will never refer to the Gulf spill as anything near ecocide
But maybe someone could start to at least cover the disaster as ecocide and bring the term more into the coverage. As you suggest, BP's ocean-genocide could work... but environmental genocide (or ecocide) is more accurate in my opinion.

4. Unrec for advocating pressuring the press into adopting politically correct language
