We cannot UNDERESTIMATE Rand Paul he can win
Edited on Thu May-20-10 01:39 PM by bigdarryl
We think we have this Kentucky race in the bag by saying he's a crack pot and an extremist. I'm listening to Big Ed show and there are idiots calling in trying to defend him.And remember this is Kentucky a Southern state with a lot of racism and I'm sure a lot of people who voted for him knew his views

However, I must say, good luck with that. :)

2. Dems have a shot because he is so crazy. But it is Kentucky.
Not going to be an easy win, but a decent shot at winning is not bad either.

Luckily, it's not a huge number of voters.

7. Yep. If this were New York, that's one thing. It's Kentucky. Unless minorities
and other Democrats get out big in Louisville and Lexington, the tea baggers have a chance.

I don't see anyone taking this for granted, either. I think Kaine was trying to make the larger point that in the general sense, the tea baggers are a small minority. We outnumber them. That said, Kaine needs to work very hard to motivate Dems to actually get out and vote. God knows that the crazy, racist tea baggers will be out in full force!!

6. Hell, there are half a dozen people on DU defending him.
I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he won Kentucky.

McCain won Kentucky handily, so it's not like the major of Kentucky voters aren't racist.

I said I don't think he is racist. I did not say I thought he was right. Maybe it is too complicated for you.

I am fair, I don't think he is racist, and is better than most Republicans for opposing wars and the unPatriot Act. But I won't be voting for him or giving him a dime. In the long run, he will help us by driving the neo-cons out of the party, possibly forming their own 3rd party.

13. OK...enough...
I live in Kentucky, and I am a Democrat. I am very tired of hearing how everyone in Kentucky is a racist; they are not. Yes, much of the state is conservative, and consists of small, rural communities. However, we do have urban areas which are progressive. Our governor is a Democrat, our legislature is split, and most of our statewide elected officials are Democrats. This state, like many, not only in the South, has trended Republican in national elections since Reagan. However, the Democratic candidates that ran against Bunning ran close races; Bunning's baseball name recognition helped him more than his party designation.

The other issue we have is that we have not had a strong Democratic candidate for national office in a long time. Jack Conway is a strong candidate, with an excellent campaign staff, and our Party leadership in KY is quite strong. That is what gives Conway a chance in this election.

Will Conway win? I don't have a crystal ball to answer that. I can tell you that the Kentucky Democratic Party does not underestimate Rand Paul, or the ability of the Tea Baggers to influence uninformed voters.

Every time you insult KY as a backward, racist state full of stupid, racist people, you are insulting all of us. Everyday I see people in this state work hard to do the right thing. However, the reality is, you may be attempting to insult us, but you are actually giving us a glimpse into your own character. Labels are for people who choose not to look at the broad picture, but only their own narrow view.

My intention is not to offend anyone; you can have your own opinion. I would hope you would not want to offend anyone either.

Sometimes it is hard to know what a state is like in the modern day, so we rely on old stereotypes.

16. Exactly. The tea party movement is inherently racist, and I'm sure that those
tea party voters have no problem whatsoever with his comments on the civil rights act. And meanwhile the freepers are just apoplectic over him. He has become their new savior. Never mind that he opposes the wars. I guess they will sweep that under the rug in order to advance their racist agenda.

17. Personally, I can't see any State in America voting for a candidate
who is openly opposed to civil rights. The idea that business owners would post signs, "Whites Only" is absurd beyond the ethical aspect of it. Around fifty percent of their customer base would be excluded. Are there business people who would be dumb enough to take that on? (Aside from a fee
pea brained saloon owners in certain locales).

and he's just a more stupid and senile version of Paul.

That said, I think Jack should win and would have taken down McConnell in 08 but we stupidly nominated a corporate crook instead but that one was still close.

Kentucky is right up there with Oklahoma and Alabama for its sensitivity on race relations and general progressive politics.

Although Ford is too new democrat for my tastes, I was rooting for him to win the Governor's seat in TN.

Still, Rand Paul is a creepy kind of crazy ... I'm thinking John Birch lite. I don't think he will be elected. IMO, Rand not a wiley as his dad.

34. This turd absolutely can win. He needs to be mocked and ridiculed.
He needs to be whacked repeatedly with the teabagger platform as recently adopted by the Maine GOP. Especially the call for the repeal of the 17th amendment. He should be asked repeatedly whether, if elected, he will resign immediately so that the state government can select Kentucky's next Senator. With such an immediate resignation, he can personally repeal the 17th amendment for the great state of Kentucky.

37. There will always be a few yahoo's that see RP as some kind of "hero". ..
Truth of the matter is, he's an idiot...by the time the election comes around, he'll be roasted to a crisp.

This is not to say D's should sit out the election, the more that show up, the better the defeat...but RP is too stupid to get elected. My Lord, just listen to him...have you ever heard such an idiot, even bush didn't get this far down the IQ scale.
