Sue Lowden says she 'misspoke' about owning bus
LAS VEGAS (AP) - U.S. Senate candidate Sue Lowden said Wednesday that she "misspoke" when she described her campaign bus as a donation, and that a lease agreement shows she doesn't own the recreational vehicle despite having her name on its title.

A complaint with the Federal Election Commission filed by Democrats alleges Lowden took an excessive campaign contribution and didn't report it properly. Campaign finance laws allow individuals to donate up to $2,400 per election to each candidate or candidate committee.

"We don't own the bus, we're paying fair market value on a lease for the bus," Lowden said Wednesday during a radio interview with KXNT-AM. "And that's legit, with a lease agreement."

She dismissed the accusations as a desperate attack from her opponents as a June 8 primary approaches.

1. What a loser. If Reid doesn't win this one, well he's a bigger loser.

5. I dont think Reid will be facing lowden in the general
I could be wrong, I also dont think Reid will win this one. My guess is it will be Tarkanian he faces and that unless Tark pulls some sort of idiot Move like lowden has he will coast to victory based on ill will for Harry and name recognition from his dads dream team.

10. Danny Tarkanian has already run statewide, and was thumped
Ross Miller beat him soundly in 2006 for Secretary of State.

Tarkanian was inept in that race. He had one or two simplistic ideas. When Jon Ralston, the top Las Vegas political guy, probed a bit, Tarkanian wobbled and fell apart.

I'm not scared of Danny Tarkanian or Sue Lowden. Neither one is anywhere near the caliber of candidate that Harry faced in '98 against John Ensign, who is a laughingstock now due to the scandal, but he was an extremely skilled candidate with strength in Southern Nevada after representing NV-1.

Harry's only problem is the cycle he's facing. Midterms naturally favor the GOP in Nevada since the rural cow counties turn out dependably, unlike Clark County.

That race will be tight. I'm encouraged -- nationally not merely in Nevada -- that gas prices may not rise as much as I feared. They are actually dropping now. As long as Obama's approval rating stays reasonably high, the losses won't be overwhelming.

In the Senate, the problem we face is the party with the cyclical advantage tends to win virtually every tight race.

9. In other words ...

Some accountants and lawyers did some quick shuffling after this "oh shit" moment in order to make sure the ownership was legally a lease.

I said the day this story came out that the very worst that would happen to her is that she'd have to give it back and then get another one (the same one) via a rental agreement.

11. First her, then Paul.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the GOP hopefuls for Senate this year for being just neverending fonts of hilarious stupidity.

12. "Mispoke" is the new catchall word for lying
Sounds more grown up than telling a "fib", and it's not a politically incorrect as "white lie".

13. Yup.
It seems like every politician seems to be "misspeaking" or otherwise letting their tongues wag while their brain is out for lunch. Moreover, none of them seems to be able to cut off said "misspeaking", instead only realizing that what they said was wrong when someone points it out for them.
