Is Rand Paul suddenly the "new Scott Brown?"
Why does the media (and everybody else) suddenly seem to care so much about him? He's a horribly regressive "teabagger" Kentucky US Senate Candidate who is apparently more willing than most Republican candidates to speak openly about what most of them believe in private and will still probably get elected in spite of (or maybe even BECAUSE OF) it.

I don't get all of the publicity for him (around here, especially)?

1. Because he's COLORFUL...
The media isn't RED and it's not BLUE...it's GREEN

They want their news program filled with controversy, celebrity and the story of the day, because that delivers an audience to watch their "invest in Gold" and "get of out debt" commercials

3. Yeah, no big deal. It's common for politicans to come out in favor of repealing the Civil Rights Act
Are you serious?

8. Not common that somebody would be so open about it
Of course, his attitude is not going to play well anywhere outside of Kentucky (or at least anywhere outside the south) and it's not like he's going to be the vanguard for some new anti-Civil Rights movement. We can all sit around and laugh at the dumba** for the crazy things he says (kind of like we normally do with Sarah Palin) but at the end of the day what is talking about this guy constantly going to accomplish? It's not like we actually expect any enlightened attitudes from Republicans (nearly all of them) or anything. :eyes: If people want to talk about him endlessly I guess that's their prerogative but the more attention we give this nut, the more free publicity he gets.

extreme Repub. who will hopefully motivate the Dems. in Kentucky in Nov.!

11. Almost but not as polished. She blows the racist dog whistle like no other.
And smiles as she turns the knife. And the media is too stupid to figure it out.

Guess they have to come right out and say it for them to pick up on it.

12. Because he hates neo-cons
Paul could be the destruction of the neo-con dominance in the Republican Party. I think he's more useful to us than we like to think.

and try to shove us back into Jim Crow days --

as long as he's willing to cut and run in places like Iraq and Afghansitan, and provide the long-hoped-for up-on-the-roof, into-the-choppers visuals that various lefties long for, well, -- more power to him! :eyes:

How DARE the United States of America believe that it might actually do some GOOD in this world! ;)

17. Because he is the Republican nominee for senator from KY.
If he wins he will be a U.S. Senator. That's a big deal. I want coverage of every time he passes gas so that the people in KY can see just who it is they could be electing Senator.

18. And, because he beat Mitch's Bitch
The guy he ran against had the backing of fellow KY GOP Senator and Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell. In other words, Paul beat out the "establishment" candidate, and they are shoe-horning that into their "The public is angry at incumbents" meme.

20. I think Scott Brown is a hell of a lot smarter than Rand Paul.
He used the Teabaggers to get himself elected, but has kept them at arms length since getting in office. Rand has 5 more months on a very long, hard road before the election, but he's wholeheartedly embraced them - and alienated the sane portion of the electorate.
