3. I JUST got this great list....

I always envisioned a project focusing on post-Katrina restoration efforts in partnership with a novel I've been involved with (set in post-Katrina NOLA and the bayou area), but with this current Gulf nightmare, it's evolved into the "Hooked on the Book" Campaign.

http://hookedonthebook.wordpress.com/

I'm scrambling to get the websites ready and will be sending out a press release to invite other authors and businesses to take part next week. Unfortunately, getting a publisher to be part of such a campaign is next to impossible, especially for a first-time author, but the author has agreed to work with the Books for Good idea and donate her proceeds that way. $1 doesn't seem like much, but it can add up, and promote new -- and local to the Gulf -- authors in the process, and/or books which are connected to that area in some way. I'd like to expand it to other creatives, too...musicians, artisans, etc. One step at a time. ;)

ANYWAY, I was interacting with a newspaper reporter in The Gulf and asked about local writers and recommendations for other organizations, and was sent this literally minutes ago. I assume the organizations listed can be found, with links, at the coalition site mentioned: Gulf Restoration Network. The group I'm working with regarding Hooked on the Book is part of this network. When I return I'll check out the link myself, but I'm literally passing it along right after receiving it. :)

"As far as environmental groups go, Gulf Restoration Network (http://healthygulf.org) is a great organization that has offices in all the Gulf Coast states from Texas to Florida (excepting Alabama, however, last I checked. But someone in the New Orleans office covers Alabama). There’s also the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and Bayou Rebirth, which does quite a bit of tree planting. There’s also the Alabama Rivers Alliance, which is a GRN partner. Other partners include:

Advocates for Environmental Human Rights

Alabama Chapter of the Sierra Club

Alabama Rivers Alliance

Alliance for Affordable Energy

American Littoral Society, Southeast Chapter

American Rivers

Baton Rouge Audubon

Bayou Preservation Association

Bayou Rebirth Wetlands Education Program

Calhoun County Resource Watch

Citizens Against Widening the Industrial Canal

Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana

Coastal Community Watch

Delta Chapter of the Sierra Club

Dogwood Alliance

Environment Florida

Environment Texas

Environmental Action Program, Loyola University

Environmental Alliance of North Florida

Environmental Coalition of Mississippi

Florida Wildlife Federation

Food and Water Watch

Galveston Bay Conservation & Preservation Association

Gulf Coast Conservancy

Informed Choices

League of Women Voters of St. Tammany

Louisiana Audubon Council

Louisiana Environmental Action Network

Louisiana Bayoukeeper

National Environmental Trust

National Wildlife Federation - Gulf States Natural Resource Center

Natural Resources Defense Council

The Ocean Conservancy

Oceana

Pearl River Basin Coalition

Pearl River Fishway

Portersville Revival Group

Reef Guardian International

Rock the Earth

Southern Alliance for Clean Energy

Southwings

Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services

Turkey Creek Community Initiatives"

Hope this helps!!! :hi:
