"Senate Race in Nevada Tightens"
Senate Race in Nevada Tightens

A new Mason-Dixon poll in Nevada shows Sue Lowden (R) barely edging Sharron Angle (R) for the Republican Senate nomination to challenge Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), 30% to 29%, followed by Danny Tarkanian (R) at 23%.

In general election match ups, Lowden leads Reid, 42% to 39%, and Tarkanian leads Reid, 42% to 41%. However, Reid leads Angle, 42% to 39%.

It's the first poll of this cycle that shows Reid could win re-election.

1. As bad as Reid is, if you put him up against the criminally insane,
of course he'll get back in.

6. You know, it is funny but I was talking about chicken lady with my Mom
yesterday, who is a conservative. She knew immediately who I meant with "chicken lady". Sue Lowden will never live that down.

10. I'm not sure I do
Looking back, both Reid and Pelosi have a great track record getting things passed with the most obstructionist opposition I have ever seen.

Now, I think there are many that might be better spokespeople, in terms of managing the Senate, Reid is not that bad. (When you compare what he got out of the Senate vs Mitchell in 1993 - 1994, Reid has done well and Mitchell was a very good leader.) I think he really blew the immigration/climate change blow up - but I have serious questions of who might have been behind that - including the sponsor of one of those two bills.

If the choice was to get Durbin, I would agree as he is an excellent advocate. If it is someone else - likely no.

12. I know it against DU CW,
but I actually think that Reid had the harder job. He needed to get a bill with the major pieces and structure included out of the Senate with 60 votes. Given the actions of Snowe, it is clear that the Republican party insisted on NO crossing the aisle. Reid had to get every single Democrat to vote for it. It was hard for Nancy, but she could lose a few dozen Democrats.

This gave EVERY Senator the ability to have some leverage if he/she wanted to hold out their vote. Given the huge egos involved, it is incredible they did it. They actually were able to turn the Brown loss to their advantage creating a better bill than they would have had with Coakley - throwing in the education piece as well.

I always thought Reid rather "whiny" and unimpressive, but if he was the one who maneuvered this through I'm impressed. I really do NOT think the more abrasive Schumer would be better.

8. Too funny!
The media tried to kill Harry Reid once again. They said he had no hope, he was so far behind in the polls. That was back in what, March? All I could think was, well it's a long ways until November.

Little did I know that the Chicken Lady would self-destruct so quickly. Here we are at the end of May and already Harry is right back in it.

Thing is, he was never out of it. Whatever else you can say about him, when it comes to politics in the state of Nevada, Harry's a scrapper and you count him out at your peril.

Go, Harry!

9. Great news
Add to this that the seniors affected are getting checks from the provision that starts to close the donut hole, many families on group insurance plans that start a new year at the beginning of next year will learn that their kids will be covered through their 26 birthday - even if they are not supported and don't live with the parents. People will learn that that are no copays on standard immunizations for their kids and the life time cap is gone. (As the end of the year nears, many will get information on this. I saw the power point slides that my husband got.) I don't know how many seniors or families with kids from 19 to 26 there are, but between them it may be a lot.

Reid, as much as Pelosi, who got more of the celebration for passing healthcare, succeeded in doing what was near impossible - he got all 60 Democratic votes. It is pretty clear now that it was Republican strategy that NO ONE would cross the aisle. It is hard to believe that seniors seeing they were lied to by the Republicans and knowing their Medicare is not just there but better might be very inclined to vote him.
