FYI - The White House wanted Sestak to keep his House seat so could only offer positions compatible |
|
with that.
That is why it was unpaid and advisory.
Why is that hard to believe?

3. I think the White House made an offer |
|
that Sestak could refuse. That way they honored their promise to support Spector when Spector switched from Repub to Dem, but they also made it easy for Sestak to refuse to drop out.

6. Great thought, and now they are taking bullets that should keep Spector on board through January |

4. cause no one sells out for so little |
|
perhaps Sestak was cheap, or perhaps they had to offer him more to get him out of the way. If they offered so little no wonder he refused.
I thought they offered him a "job", not some silly "perk". Why sell out for something that has little power and no pay?

7. Because they probably did not expect him to take the offer. |
|
They probably did it to appease Specter, for whatever reason. Specter probably got assurances from the WH when he switched that they would help him in his re-election efforts and obviously a primary opponent did not help.

8. You thought they offered a job |
|
because that's what Sestak said. Based on this information (and it is too official to doubt its veracity), Sesatk "mis-spoke" when it was convenient for him to do so.

10. Are you saying Sestak would give up to be a U.S. senator |
|
for an unpaid job? Seems implausible to me. But then what do I know about how to dissuade the vice-admiral from being ambitious.
