1. The crime here is the White House's determined backing of a sure GE loser in Specter. nt |

I've been saying that since this stupid nonstory first "broke" - - the only wrongdoing here was Obama supporting that ancient tool Specter for reelection.

Specter has been winning elections in Pennsylvania for a long time.
I agree with you that Specter's career should have ended more gracefully.
However, when you are looking at the Racing Form a month in advance, and you are deciding between a proven Grade 1 handicap winner versus a maiden two year old, then arguing against the tote board is pointless.

19. The bottom line remains |
|
60 votes to break a filibuster, and it is not up to the White House who wins a primary. I get the feeling that some are more interested in finding wedges.

I'm not blaming anyone for 1980, just observing the outcome.
We all agree this problem started in 1980, and this would be a different world if we hadn't lost it - no matter who had won the primary.

28. The point is not to say that "EVERYONE DOES IT!". |
|
The point is that it wasn't illegal then, so why should it be illegal now? It's horsetrading--pure and simple. If we're going to wring the White House's neck for this, what's next?

17. Not sure exactly who is wearing the egg on the face - |
|
- them for doing it or us for not investigating it? For the life of me, I can't figure out why we didn't act upon the Reagan offer at the time. It was enough of an incident to warrant a newspaper article so it was obviously common knowledge.
Little late to go after Ronnie for this and - while ironic - I don't see irony changing the law very often.
