What did they do to recover from that. It washed up in Texas, we need those people who have had the experience of this to come forward.

1. So... What happened with that
Even if we triple the official numbers from Deep water, It only matches Ixtoc. And somehow the gulf didn't die at that time, nor the rest of the world with it.

2. It brings some perspective.
There was also some enormous spills in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Saudi Arabia, which most people don't know about it, because Saudi Arabia's state-controlled media squelched the story.

Of course, the BP Disaster is an utter environmental catastrophe, but it is not unprecedented, won't end all life on earth, and can be addressed.

Don't get me wrong, I still want Tony Hayward and Doug Suttles to commit seppuku over this...

3. There is that
I suppose that at some point the cumulative effect may just do in us "higher" life forms, or at least our current organizations.

4. Yeah, I barely remember it but it was in MUCH more shallow water
and they did all the same crap as now, it failed and failed for months on end till they got the relief well. This current deal is much worse logistically. There is no experience at this depth. Ixtoc could be dived to.

Rachel's show Thursday brought back some recollection of it being on the nightly news.

5. I was wondering about the clean up .. we must have some history on how they did that
And hopefully they are planning relief wells, because from reading some history on this.. that is the only thing that in the end works

6. They're already drilling two relief wells.
Unfortunately, relief wells take too long - they might be done in August if Murphy's Law doesn't apply...

The correct thing to do with regards to relief wells is require oil companies to drill the relief wells as they're drilling the main wells, like they do in Canada and Norway. That way, if there's a blowout, the relief wells can stop the oil blowout quickly.
