WH Press Pool Causes Farrakhan's Fruit of Islam to Panic; Fear They're Being Watched by the CIA

(The President's house and Farrakhan's house are two blocks from each other. Who knew?)

White House Press Pool Standoff With Farrakhan Agents

by KEITH KOFFLER on MAY 29, 2010, 11:24 PM
There is an interesting little scene playing out near the Chicago residence of Marty Nesbitt, a presidential pal whom the Obama’s are visiting tonight. It appears the press pool that follows Obama in the motorcade has had its black vans parked at the foot of the home of none other than one Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan of course has his very own security detail who have not taken a liking to the black vans and are muttering something about the “CIA” having arrived.

According to pool reports filed by New York Times reporter Jackie Calmes, the Secret Service agent babysitting the press pool refused a demand that the vans leave and then introduced himself as a member of the Secret Service.

The Farrakhan agents then began filming the press van and the reporters and glaring at them. One approached the van and stood mute until finally being told to move away by the Secret Service agent. He did. Three agents then came up as reinforcements, talked to the now nearly two dozen Nation of Islam types hanging around, but then left.

Read the pool report here:

And so that you can put a face to a name, Jackie Calmes is the reporter who grilled the President as to whether the former MMS head had been fired or quit during the briefing Thursday.

And here's a weird, cryptic Tweet posted by another member of the WHPC (not on the scene)

Weird goings on in a mansion at Woodlawn & 49th. Walkie-talkie in a water bucket, Farrakhan, "the CIA" & t-shirts saying "Ride or Die!" Huh?

Too funny.

2. She's the tar balls & bathing suit lady too
Told Obama she used to get tar balls in her suit when she was younger and he told her he'd like to hear more about that some day, lol.

I like her pool reports too, personal without being cutesy, with just a bit more pizzazz than some of them.

3. One of my favorite ones ....
.... was from a night the First Couple had gone out to dinner and it read something like "the First Lady has a small blue purse which your pool reporter is told is known as 'a clutch'"

4. The standoff is over, lol
The power of pool reportage! Standoff ends, apparently with help of intermediary in Detroit:
Your pooler got a call at about 10:15 local time from a pool report reader who identified himself as the Rev. Gary Hunter, a Baptist minister in Motown who writes and blogs for the Detroit Times. He said he had called Minister Farrakhan and his son and asked them to have the Fruit stand down.
"I told him you were good people," Rev. Hunter said. "He said he didn't know you all were just waiting for the president."
As it happens, the FOI indeed had mostly gone by then. The Rev Hunter apparently is remembered by Ms. Tubman, and he said he knows our frequent press rustler Ben Finkenbinder from past travels with Obama, and -- sorry, Ben -- could he make that name up?
Anyway, at 10:33 we pulled away and we are at the Obama residence. Never saw Potus et al.
WE HAVE A FULL LID.

5. You have to wonder....
... did the President know about the situation? And if he did, was he amused? Did he peek over the fence to see the scene?
