2. Wasterworld! Ironic, since Costner may end up helping us here.
Really it is his nothing, since stupid metaphors are just that, stupid. It is a gigantic oil spill. Must the media keep coming up with silly comparisons?

4. It's his "Gigli."
Edited on Mon May-31-10 01:09 AM by BlueIris
Not the worst blunder ever, but offensive enough to do some career damage.

5. It's not his worst blunder ever? Are you implying that it's HIS blunder?
Last I heard, he wasn't out there on the rig when it blew...

I dare say that when one reaches the Presidency of the United States, they've reached the PINNACLE of ALL careers, and career damage is after that, a moot point.

6. Well, "Gigli" wasn't Ben Affleck's fault either, it's not like he directed that atrocity.
Edited on Mon May-31-10 02:16 AM by BlueIris
But being that he was in the spotlight there, so to speak, its catastrophic failure did sorta rub off on him. Especially because he wasn't exactly in a position to do any more decent projects after that. And "Gigli" was the point in Affleck's life when the star power wore off and people realized he was just another actor.

8. Ben Affleck was in Gigli? Don't know, didn't see it. Obama ain't a fucking movie star, or failure.
He's President of the United States. NO comparison between him and Ben Nobody works no matter how you slice or dice it. In fact, no comparison between Obama and a THOUSAND movie actors who have more standing than Ben Nobody works.

The star power wore off? Ooh... Sorry Ben... Ben who?

Barack Obama isn't "just another" President in the same way that Ben Nobody is just another actor.

7. It's not HIS anything. Get a fucking clue. It simply happened on HIS watch.
Now it's his duty to clean it up, just like all the other messes that were left in his fucking lap.

Jesus fucking Christ. You might as well say that Fat Man and Little Boy were FDR's _____ or that Pearl Harbor was Truman's _____.

Stop it already.

11. It's not his anything!
This is our problem. Obama happens to be the President at this time. President Obama to his credit takes ownership of his job, and his job is to lead the nation through the crisis. But the nation doesn't WANT to be led through the crisis; the nation wants it magically done so it can move on to other things. And so the nation is happy to blame the President and refer to this as his problem, his Katrina, his Waterloo, his whatever.

Crap. This is a national problem which will ultimately impact all of us. It is our problem. It is our oil gusher. It is our gulf crisis. It ain't Obama's anything.

15. The real issue is why does BP have such powerful influence on our political institutions.
Among its many crimes, BP has used the Coast Guard and FAA to keep journalists from documenting the true scope of the environmental catastrophe, and it has used Gestapo tactics to suppress and intimidate oil workers from telling the truth of what is transpiring in the Gulf and of what happened on the Deepwater Horizon rig.

A costly mess that he will probably "win" because the ultra-corporatists can't really bring too much to bear on this without showing their own true stripes.
