IL GOPer Kirk Admits Claim On Military Award 'Was Not Precise'
Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) -- the Republican nominee for President Obama's old Senate seat -- acknowledged over the weekend that an earlier claim about his military record wasn't entirely accurate.

As the Washington Post first reported, Kirk had claimed in the biography on his website that he'd received the Navy's Intelligence Officer of the Year award. The honor was actually given to Kirk's unit -- not to him individually.

In an email statement to supporters, Kirk said that "the error" was discovered last week when he and his staff realized the name of the award was "not precise."

The TPM Poll Average in the Illinois Senate race shows Kirk leading Democrat Alexi Giannoulias 42.8% to 38.2%.

1. I briefly saw Joe Scar laughing about Mark Kirk this am but I think he
only liked it so he could get another jab in to Blumenthal...I promptly turned the channel.....

2. I'm starting to wonder if I am crazy to think most people don't lie
on their resume. I know some do, but I honestly thought it was a very small minority. Now i question that thinking.

Tweety just said he thinks this could be a game chaanger. I hope he's right!

3. Since I won the cold war without help, I think I can speak with
authority on this subject.
