Presidential math
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 04:54 PM by FailingParachute
This is what then candidate Obama said on 7/14/08:

"As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan. ..."

Yesterday, he opted to send 30,000 troops there.

Normally, a brigade is anywhere from 4-5k troops.

In this case, Obama is (initially) sending SIX brigades.

Bush the Idiot (elder) used to call it "fuzzy math."

Oh wait, I see....he said "at least", so that means he really isn't fibbing, right?

Well, except for the new strategy part, which is of course Bush The Sequel With Better Syntax.

Sometimes it's hard for an old man like me to understand the nuances of illegal wars and such.

And I seem to have lost my LBJ/Vietnam pro-war pom poms as well - that's a shame, because they're in fashion again now.

14. December 8, 1969
"At a news conference, President Richard Nixon says that the Vietnam War is coming to a "conclusion as a result of the plan that we have instituted." Nixon had announced at a conference in Midway in June that the United States would be following a new program he termed "Vietnamization."

Under the provisions of this program, South Vietnamese forces would be built up so they could assume more responsibility for the war. As the South Vietnamese forces became more capable, U.S. forces would be withdrawn from combat and returned to the United States. In his speech, Nixon pointed out that he had already ordered the withdrawal of 60,000 U.S. troops. Concurrently, he had issued orders to provide the South Vietnamese with more modern equipment and weapons and increased the advisory effort, all as part of the "Vietnamization" program. As Nixon was holding his press conference, troops from the U.S. 25th Infantry Division (less the Second Brigade) began departing from Vietnam."

Everything old is new again.

Stop dreaming.

9. Why, because he put a date on it?
So did Bush The Idiot (younger) eventually.

Let me guess, he's going to help make the Afghan people stand up so we can stand down.

That's a new one, eh?

12. Bush is a neocon, he had no intention of ever leaving Iraq or Afghanistan.
Obama is not, and he has an exit plan. Iraq is already drawing down.

BTW, got a link for Bush's exit plan?

15. Gosh, he only mentioned it with every third mangled word out of his mouth the last two years
he was in office.

I guess, though, if somebody writes it down that makes it much more extra special.

Oh, and didn't Gates say today the timetable probably couldn't be met?

But it's IN WRITING, so it's REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13. WTF - DO you even know what the Bush doctrine is?
It's creating a preemptive war to AVOID potential problems.
That's the Bush doctrine. Not going to war to stop a threat...going to war to stop what "might be" a threat in the future.

And if you listened to Obama's speech he directly said that he is doing just that.
I truly do not expect you to understand this.

18. So his "exit strategy" that so many here are in love with
is subject to change as well?

As are the number of troops who will be sent?

And the number who will needlessly die?

Interesting.
