Weigel Resigns from Washington Post
BREAKING: Weigel Resigns

By Matt Dornic on Jun 25, 2010 12:09 PM

FIRST ON FISHBOWLDC: FishbowlDC has confirmed that WaPo conservative-beat blogger Dave Weigel has resigned after a slew of anti-conservative comments and emails surfaced on FishbowlDC and Daily Caller over the past two days.

A spokesperson for the Post said that the paper will not offer additional comments but confirmed his resignation.

9. he's a libertarian (the only good one in all the land)....
.... but he reports on the insanity of the fringe right, so folks often wrongfully think he's a liberal (myself included.)

A thread I created here where I said he was a liberal was actually quoted on a conservative blog that was bashing him for "being a liberal." My assumption was given as proof that he was one.

It was pretty funny.

But more important than his political leanings, he's an excellent journalist .... and a hillariously snarky Tweeter.

3. At least he was honest and right about Drudge:
"This would be a vastly better world to live in if Matt Drudge decided to handle his emotional problems more responsibly, and set himself on fire."

And the teabaggers:

"It's all very amusing to me. Two hundred screaming Ron Paul fanatics couldn't get their man into the Fox News New Hampshire GOP debate, but Fox News is pumping around the clock to get Paultard Tea Party people on TV."

7. And here is Ezra's post on the matter...
.... Ezra Klein is not only a friend of Dave's but he helped him get the job at the WaPo and created the listserv that was the scene of the crime.

10. Good. That 'ratf*cker' Tucker Carlson published the emails from Journalist.
It was ironic, in a way, that it would be the Daily Caller that published e-mails from Journolist. A few weeks ago, its editor, Tucker Carlson, asked if he could join the list. After asking other members, I said no, that the rules had worked so far to protect people, and the members weren't comfortable changing them. He tried to change my mind, and I offered, instead, to partner with Carlson to start a bipartisan list serv. That didn't interest him.

11. That's a damn shame.
He was never hired under any guise of being "conservative" blogger. He was hired to report on the conservative movement.
