Kudos to Fox News' Shepard Smith for NOT running the Breitbart video
It's surprising that Shepard Smith still has a gig at Fixed Noise after he essentially would not play along with the Breitbart video attack when it came out and he deserves some recognition for standing up when it was not the easy thing to do. Here was his statement:

Shepard Smith Unloads On Fox News, White House Over Shirley Sherrod Scandal

"We here at Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the tale in any way for many reasons, among them: we didn’t know who shot it, we didn’t know when it was shot, we didn’t know the context of the statement, and because of the history of the videos on the site where it was posted, in small we do not and did not trust the source."

He also correctly went after the communications team and others at the White House with their complicity in falling for the Breitbart bait with this statement:

“an edited videotape on a widely discredited website that has had inaccurate postings of videos in the past–edited to the point where the world was deceived……what in the world has happened to our industry and the White House?…how can they lead and govern if what they’re apprehensive about is something that happens on a cable news channel that they’ve already said doesn’t matter?”

Even Smith knows Breitbart's website is "a widely discredited website that has had inaccurate postings of videos in the past".

Thank you, Shepard ...for having a spine.

1. Maybe a Ku but without the do. He did the right thing, but he still works for Fox.
It's like congratulating Graham for voting for financial reform. He's still a Republican.

2. For standing up in the belly of the beast is at least worth a kudo...
He needs to leave Fox and I'm sure he's been asked before to "play along"...

Wouldn't you much rather him work for Fox and let the Fox viewers get a different perspective on the news then the rest of the shows then have him be replaced by more of the same?

10. I think Shepard is to Hannity/O'Reilly viewers as Scabby Joe is to KO/Rachel viewers.

The Stupids probably don't trust him anyway, and the non-Stupids are not watching Fuck Snooze.

4. I don't believe the WH fell for this. But I really like Shepard Smith and he's of course amazing.
The only person on FN worth anything. He really belongs on a better news station. I'd totally fantasize about marrying SS if he wasn't married already.

7. lol, this is such a better story for Fox than the original
Talk about falling for shit.

The White House has said repeatedly they had nothing to do with this -- and yet Shepard Smith gets to spread that lie with impunity, while being praised for not falling for the original story. He's just better at the game and knows who his ultimate target is, that's all.

12. Of course...
Shep has also said similar of sites like Media Matters and Think Progress. This is a case of a broken clock being right.

13. Yeah. He definitely went against the culture and the mantra there.
I'm no fan of Fox, but Shep did the correct thing.

16. You Also Might Recall...
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 03:55 PM by Steely_Dan
that he was as outraged as anyone on the left when it came to Katrina. He stood on the bridge in a live shot and basically screamed at the lack of help for the people dying. I'm no fan of Fox and I never will be. However, when those on the other side show compassion and understanding, it is our duty (in the light of fair-play) to provide positive reinforcement.
