A Reader's Lament

TPM Reader JC has to hit the off switch on the email ...

I finally had to block emails from a couple of my cousins, because they were sending me thinly veiled racist diatribes about the death of America, Muslims, Democrats being the party of the big-city ghettos and the responsibility of poor people for the world economic crisis. (Isn't it a crime that poor people in the ghettos conspired to bring down Iceland and Ireland, countries that never did them any harm? -- In case of any doubt, this comment was intended to be sarcastic.)
These emails were prompted by the Major Hasan case. It was just too disturbing for me to receive any more of this rubbish.

What is the character profile of a racist? I cannot answer that question in general, but these particular relatives were always controlling, negative people from the time they were little boys. I never did like them.

This is all very sad. I have always supported Obama, I still do, and, for the most part, I trust his instincts. What makes this especially sad is that -- alhough I think Obama should have broken up the big banks -- I am shocked by the way the Left has abandoned him. I disagree with Joan Walsh, for example, that Obama is a Centrist. That is only a label. I think that Obama is a left-leaning pragmatist, and he figures out a solution to every problem on its merits.

If the Democrats come crashing down, I think it will be as much the responsibility of ideologues on the Left as idiots on the Right.

That's for the veiled racism. As for the left, I have said it once and I'll say it again---"They suffer from a severe case of Alzheimer and beng bipolar." They are indignant and even if Obama did what they said---another faction would say he didn't do it well enough or with people he should have which would make him still be slightly lacking.

The left is insatiable to the point of being obsessive compulsive. For the economy to relatively be rescued out of disaster and recent news say unemployment claims went from 700,000 a day to 11,000 with 11 States moving out of a recession. You'll find another poster and another person say that the "real" number of unemployment is well over 17%. Then you have others who say Geithner is a theift alongside Bernanke----while you'll even have this faction who hated Geithner end up supporting Bernanke. You'll have people accusing one group of being war-mongers because some may see the complexity of the situation and will support the situation. Another group will say "Get our troops out now."<----irrespective of the chaos we commit by leaving. Because in the end they believe it is for the sake of national security, even if it may be false; and as such we leave Afghanistan to the hounds.

Then you have the group who was never supportive of Obama and probably never supported be it Dem or Repub who in essence have joined forces to claim to being Obama supporters who have seen the light and use issues with policy as a guise in order to personally attack the man---and there is undeniably personal attacks at this time. So the "left" varies---many take the title of left and being very far from it.

Other's define all these other titles in order to say one person is this or that. No wonder of all the titles I only tolerate Independent. In any event, I'm not surprised by the above from a racist nation to a fickle left. In the end a Republican can come into power at this point and then both sides can shut up. It's a bit of frustration at this point and mixed in with the realization that in relation to this President ----but especially this one just not appreciated that much for what he has done or can do. He's never meeting the demands, from what I can see, nor can he.

3. What a dipshit. Gets racist emails and manages to blame the Left.

Maybe Obama should have recognized that constantly slighting his supporters in order to reach out to the racist email-sending crowd was a dumb idea.

The President has made his bed on the economy, Afghanistan, Iraq, lobbyists, government accountability, PATRIOT Act, FISA, etc. The President chose to pursue policies in line with the agendas of neo-conservatives and big business corporatists. The peons on the Right know they're being screwed over, but they listen to clowns like Rush and Beck and believe that their lives are worse because of some non-existent "Socialist agenda". when a Democratic President takes office and immediately cozies up to the same cast of characters responsible for the screwing, why should those on the Left bite their tongues and fall in line just because those on the Right are brainwashed fools? What kind of logic is that?
